SIDDHARTH'S POV
"Mom, please try to understand. I can't go, I have prior work commitments."
A frustrated sigh was followed by my words as I tried to argue with my mother over the phone but she was too adamant to listen to me. I plop down on my seat and rubbed my temple trying to ease my annoyance as she continued to nag me through the call.
"I don't care Sid, someone else can handle your work. I have already made a reservation. You are going on a date with Myra and you will send me a picture of you two enjoying it otherwise there is no need to come home tonight."
I chewed on my inner cheek as she hung up after saying that. With hardened expressions, I threw my phone across the desk and sunk deeper on my chair. Having no other choice, I informed my secretary about my unavailability for the next meeting.
"But sir, where are you heading to?"
She asked, confused, since I never leave the office until late at night especially if we have some important work. Rolling my eyes, I replied to her in a sarcasm laced tone.
"To get the keys to my house."
Grabbing my overcoat, I walked out of my office leaving her even more confused. What I said was partially true though, if I didn't take Myra out for a date, my mother would really not let me enter my own house and one thing I loved the most after my office chair was my comfortable and cozy bed.
I parked my car in the dark empty parking lot and stepped my foot out as my eyes darted around the area before I made my way out to her clinic. Soon my steps slowed down when I heard the echoing sound of heels clicking against the stoned floor. There she was, the printed silky ribbon braided in her hair was enough for me to recognize her from behind even in the dark.
But the way she was walking seemed odd to me. She was constantly looking behind her. My eyebrows frowned at the sight of her rummaging in her bag, something was definitely fishy. That's when my eyes darted at the silhouette of a man who was walking towards her direction. Something inside me stirred, as I almost leaped towards her, making sure I reached her before that creepy man.
Sliding my left arm around her clothed waist, I pulled her closer to me. Her waist fitted in my arms perfectly but instead of that, I kept my undivided attention on that man. There was no way in hell that I would let him take even a step near her. I felt her visibly flinching at my sudden presence as I cursed myself for surprising her like that.
Her next course of action took me by complete surprise, from the keys of her car she stabbed me in the stomach. It hurted but not as much as her terrified clenched eyes did. My nostrils flared as it took every muscle in my body for me to stop myself from taking that man's skin off.
"It's me, Myra."
I reassured her and she finally opened her eyes but the hot liquid forming in them panged my heart. I could feel her fingers trembling and it surely didn't feel good. I had this sudden intense feeling inside my stomach to just take away all her fears.
"Keep walking."
Her voice was vulnerable, I didn't take an extra second in following her command. She held my forearm tightly making my hold on her waist even more firm. Her nails were digging in my skin but I didn't bat an eye on it. Instead, my sharp gaze measured the whole area around us. That man was near and I was ready to break his nose, when Myra murmured.
"Don't let him see my face."
That was it, in a swift movement I caged her in my arms against a car. Leaning closer, I tilted my head, completely covering her face for anyone else to see. She still had her eyes shut, I was close enough to feel her hot shaky breath over my jaw, that's where she reached with the heels. I don't know whose heartbeat it was but I could hear the thumping in my ear.
