SIDDHARTH'S POV
Earlier, the same night.
After taking an update about the day from Abhir, I was walking towards the conference room with a cup of black coffee to keep me going. The amount of it I have consumed today must be insane, I doubt If it's still blood running in my veins instead of coffee.
Sarah, my assistant, was having a hard time matching my pace of walking. She gripped the files in her hands tightly before speaking, her words laced with hesitation.
"Uh..sir, The weather isn't great. You know about the rains of mumbai right? It's also late, shouldn't we postpone this meeting?"
My face stiffened as I halted my steps making her do the same. One of the things I hate the most is unasked-for suggestions or advice. Being my assistant for more than a year she should know this by now. I shot her a glare followed by a sharp breath.
"Did I ask for your suggestion, Miss Sarah?"
My fake sweet tone didn't match the stern expression plastered on my face. She took a step back and shook her head while I gave her a sarcastic smile.
"Exactly."
The day had been hectic as I decided to restart the shopping complex project at the same piece of land. Now, we were going to meet a team of architects to finalise our design and ain't no way I would postpone this meeting for a daam storm.
The business world doesn't work as per your comfort. The employees will get an extra pay for the overtime, heck! I could even arrange something to drop them home but this meeting isn't stopping tonight.
Straightening my perfectly ironed shirt, collars of the coat, I stepped my foot in the white conference room. "White indeed is my favourite colour." My heart almost skipped a beat as her words ringed in my mind and the sly smile of hers flashed in front of my eyes.
I must be going nuts. shaking her thought off my mind, I opened the single button of my blazer and took a seat. Nodding my head occasionally, I gazed at the projector screen with utmost focus which was disrupted by a ring of my phone that was placed on the large square table.
My eyes furrowed at my phone screen which displayed her name on it. Heads turned in my direction as the loud ring echoed in the room. I cleared my throat and pushed my chair back.
"Excuse me, I gotta take this."
Stepping to the side, I picked her call.
"Siddharth..."
Choked heavy and desperate voice,
She was crying.
A rush of concern and panic washed over my whole being, my stomach fell. I looked at my clients who were looking at me, waiting for me to end the call and continue this meeting. My dream project was at the very tip of my finger, I was about to grasp it when her crying voice ringed in my head.I didn't take much time to think too much. Tightening my grip over my phone, I took a few more steps to the side and left the conference room, ignoring everyone's questionable gaze.
"What happened, Myra?"
My words were calculated, I tried my best to hide the underlying concern in them but it somehow showed in my hushed tone. I could hear her gulping hard before she tried to let her next words out. Something was terribly wrong and it was making my heart race.
"My mother...she got injured. My car broke down and the ambulance is stuck somewhere due to heavy rain. Could you please come?"
Something in me churned, she sounded so scared. Her voice trembled badly as she let those words out. I don't even want to imagine the fear she must be going through right now. In that one moment something changed and I knew, Tonight I would do anything, just anything to make sure she is fine.
