HE FELT DEFEATED, like he'd been putting off what he knew was to come. he had always known the prison would eventually fall, weather it be because of the fences caving beneath the dead's weight, or it be by someone else who wanted the prison for themselves. he had always held that knowing feeling within his chest, in the pits of his stomach he knew.

he used to hate himself for thinking negatively about their home, daryl always told him to not think badly, to keep the negativity away, because the last thing they needed would be to lose the prison.

but they did. they'd lost everything they had worked so hard to build, they'd lost their home. they'd lost everyone, he hated the anger that surged within his chest.

he felt defeated because he knew he'd eventually lose the one person he had once forced to get out of bed. the one person he'd stay up all night with. colette was the one person that he held close to him, he'd never held his father close to him, his father had never been within his heart. neither had his mother, he hated her for abandoning him. leaving him with a sorry excuse of a father, but he always did hold colette closer to his heart then others.

he was close with the grimes family, they'd never asked questions when he showed up late at night, asking if he could crash on their couch.

perhaps he'd done the same thing with colette, he'd been pushing off what he knew was to come. the prison was bound to fall, and so was colette. she wouldn't live forever, neither of them would. dieing was at a higher risk now that the dead walked, but he didn't think he'd lose her so soon.

he had pushed off the idea of her dying for so long, he'd been pushing off the inevitable.

they trekked through the dense forest, boots thumping against the ground. the mud soft as they walked, it made squelching noises as they walked. his hand was pushed harshly against his shoulder, his lips clapped tightly shut not wanting to let out any noise is pain. he could feel the lodged bullet within his arm, each movement felt like hell.

yet they didn't have the time to stop, nor would they get it until they found a place for the night. "it's getting dark soon, where are we going?" lizzy spoke, her soft childlike voice coming from behind the two. lee slowed to a halt, looking to tyrese who still clutched the baby to his chest, judith was wide awake. her head propped up as she looked at the scenery that she'd never been able to see before.

it wasn't much of a view from within the prison walls. the dead clung to the fences, and the forest trees only showed more of them nearing. "further, come on." tyrese told, his voice soft as he spoke to the children. lee admired the man's strength, tyrese hadn't shown a lick of fear that ate at him. he didn't let the overwhelming feeling of not finding someplace show in his voice as he spoke. lee knew he would've ended up snapping at the child if he had been the one to answer, she'd asked the same question nearly fifteen times since they'd left the prison. between the burning in his arm and the child that continued to ask the same question, he had become very irritable.
