Logan

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Talia," I smiled, and a shy smile crept on her beautiful face.

"I won't return the compliment," she retorted.

The girl's mood changed like the patterns in a kaleidoscope. She cried until a few moments ago, and right then her anger seemed to have returned.

"I am sorry for being a disappointment, but I want to know about my father's illness. As you might have realized, he kept me in the dark about it, and I have no one else to go to other than you," I explained to her and watched her expression soften.

"He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's two years ago," she disclosed, and the revelation was like an explosion for my senses.

Laurent De La Roche had Alzheimer's? I wouldn't wish that disease even upon my worst enemy, and he was my father. Though I hated him my entire life, I couldn't help but feel sorry for him.

"He is losing the battle against it. His disease is progressing very fast, and the doctors are afraid he doesn't have much time left until he succumbs to it," Talia revealed, and I was left dumbfounded.

There wasn't a cure for Alzheimer's even after science had developed so much that man could travel back and forth into space. At least in cancer, there were chances for a patient to be cured if the disease was detected earlier. But with Alzheimer's, it was only a matter of time after diagnosis.

Some might live for years with Alzheimer's with a bit of difficulty in their day-to-day life. But if it turned aggressive, then all one could do was wait and watch helplessly as someone they loved succumbed to it.

"Won't you say anything?" Talia asked in a hurt tone.

"I don't know what to say," I seriously couldn't think of saying anything.

I tried to absorb the truth about my father's health.

"He loves you, Logan. When that man told him you were alive, he broke down in front of my dad, who is his best friend," Talia said, watching me intently.

So Talia was the daughter of Laurent's best friend. That was the reason she had been so furious at me.

"Uncle Laurent is my Godfather. I cannot watch him suffer alone when he has a son. His regret is killing him, and he doesn't let anyone help him," Talia's eyes filled with tears.

I had no clue how to console her while I was still in a state of shock. My heart drowned in regret for mistreating him.

"He needs you, Logan. Especially now, when he won't even remember himself. I have seen him lose everyone that mattered to him. All that he is left with is you. Please don't take it away from him. He won't be able to survive if he loses you," she held my hands in her and pleaded in desperation.

Talia's request left me in turmoil. I admit I hated my father, but I couldn't ignore the fact he tried everything he could in the past months to earn my forgiveness.

Richard Williams's secretary confirmed that Richard lied to Laurent about Mom passing away while delivering a still child. He had even shown me the records that Williams had forged.

I had nothing left to go back to. Christina didn't want me. Instead, she tried to get me killed. I could either live a life of misery, or I could try to help my father die in peace and prove to him that my mother raised me to be a better man than his parents could ever have raised him.

It wouldn't be easy to accept my father back into my life, but I couldn't turn my back on him when he needed me the most and only prove like father, like son.
