Christina
"It isn't what you are thinking," I murmured helplessly to Joan.
Her eyes were filled with hurt. Joan was my only friend, and she had always stood with me through thick and thin. I could imagine what it looked like to her. She had no idea about my past or my relationship with Logan. For her, I was the office slut who slept with the new boss.
"Then enlighten me, what is it, Christina?" Joan taunted.
I took a deep breath because I knew I was about to lose Joan, too. I couldn't tell her the truth, and I didn't want to lie. Logan was cutting off everyone from my life. First Samuel and now Joan, he made sure I didn't have any friends.
"Cat got your tongue? Or there isn't anything to explain other than that you are sleeping with him?" Joan took a step toward me.
I could see the pain in her eyes because of my betrayal as clear as a day. My gut wrenched seeing Joan hurt. Was I ready to lose her?
"They kidnapped my son…," my voice broke, and Joan's eyes widened in astonishment.
"What????" Joan exclaimed, aghast.
She grabbed my arm and pulled me into the pantry, "Tell me what happened?"
"Aiden got kidnapped, and they demanded five million in ransom. I asked Jonathan for help, but he refused. I had no choice but to go to Logan," tears strolled down my eyes one after the other.
"Did you get Aiden back?"
I nodded, "Logan paid the ransom and helped get back Aiden."
"What the hell? Who kidnapped him? Didn't you go to the police?" Joan fired questions at me one after the other.
"They threatened to kill him if I went to the authorities," I answered.
"What about Aiden? How is he?" She asked out of concern.
"He is doing well. A little traumatized, but he is okay," I rubbed my palms against each other.
"I can't believe this. So much happened, and you didn't even tell me?" Her voice was full of resentment.
"I was not in my senses. Everything was just a blur," I replied in a tired voice.
"Come here," Joan spread her arms, and I hugged her.
She kept rubbing my back as I cried in her arms. It felt good to have Joan at my side. I had already lost too much in my life, and I didn't want to lose her.
"I am sorry, Joan," I sobbed, pulling away from her, "I didn't know what to do when they took him and demanded a huge ransom. I could only think of Jonathan, but he refused to lend the money even though I was ready to accept his marriage proposal. He said that I wasn't worth five million."
"That asshole," Joan cursed, "he doesn't deserve you, Christina. I am happy that you didn't have to marry him."
"Me too," I smiled despite all the tension.
Jonathan asked about Aiden and apologized when I returned to work after Logan brought back Aiden. I neither accepted his apology nor did I forgive him. He was a selfish bastard who hadn't even cared that those monsters could have killed my son.
Even though Logan hated me and wanted to exact revenge on me, he hadn't backed down from helping me when I needed him the most.
"So, are you and Logan in a relationship?"
Joan brought up the part that I was dreading the most. If I lied to her and she found out about Talia from someone else, Joan would never trust me.
I shook my head in a no, "He asked me to be his mistress," I admitted with my eyes fixed on the floor and my cheeks heating up from humiliation.
