Joan came to my office after a few minutes with the file. I couldn't miss the way she glared at me with loathing.

Did Christina told her everything?

Joan and Christina were friends, and it was likely she shared things about her life with Joan. There was no other reason Joan could act like this towards me.

"Did Christina give any reason why she left early?" I inquired Joan.

"She wasn't feeling well," Joan replied with a blank face.

I was startled by her statement. Christina had informed HR there was an emergency, and when I asked her why she left early, she told me her mother wasn't well. Right then Joan told me Christina departed early because she wasn't feeling well.

Something was missing. Either Joan or Christina was lying. Or it could be that both of them were liars in this scenario. Which left the question of where Christina could go?

Dismissing Joan, I dialed the hospice center and inquired about Christina's mother. They assured me her condition was the same and nothing to worry about. Which meant Christina lied to me.

Why?

Where could she go that she didn't want me to know about? I called Mark and asked if Christina had shown up, but he informed me she hadn't and that Bertha and Aiden had left half an hour ago. A flash of lightning struck my mind, and everything got clear as a day.

Bertha had taken Aiden to the park so Christina could meet him. Shutting down my laptop, I left my office. On the way out, I called the company driver to bring the car to the front of the office. Then, I called and asked my driver to which park he took Aiden and Bertha.

He gave me the address, and I narrated it to the company driver. I wished Bertha wouldn't be stupid enough to go against my direct orders, but as we approached the park, my suspicion strengthened.

Christina didn't leave early for no reason. If her mother was okay, then what other issue could she have? The more I thought about it, the angrier I got. If Christina double-crossed me, she would regret her decision for the rest of her life. I would make sure to make her life a living hell. As for Bertha, she wouldn't find employment anywhere after that betrayal.

The driver dropped me at the main gate of the park where I used to go jogging and where Aiden came for football practice with that twat Jeremy. The park was vast, and it took me some time to search for Aiden and Bertha. Aiden was playing football while Bertha was sitting on a bench and watching them. There was no sign of Christina around.

My anger dissipated, and I was about to walk toward them when I noticed a glimmer of blonde in my peripheral vision. I turned in the direction of the blonde and saw Christina approaching Aiden and Bertha with a box of donuts in her hands. My rage came back with intensity a hundred times more than before.

I was right.

Christina had been plotting behind my back to meet Aiden. I felt angrier at Bertha than I was at Christina. I paid the woman, and her loyalties lay with my ex. I needed to handle Christina first, and then I would decide what to do with Bertha.

I strode towards Aiden angrily before he could notice Christina, but fate wasn't on my side. He turned and saw her approaching him. Aiden's expression froze momentarily, and then a broad smile lit up his beautiful face.

"Mom," he called out in excitement, rushing towards her, who knelt on the ground and spread her arms for him.

I increased my pace, and before Christina could pull Aiden in her arms, I pushed between the two and glared down at Christina with hatred, "Surprised, darling?"
