Logan
I returned home after buying a ring and flowers for Christina. I planned to take her out for dinner and propose to her. It was the happiest day of my entire life. Christina agreed to marry me. She was going to be mine forever.
Even the thought of losing Christina was enough to make my breath stop. I never imagined I could love someone to the extent that even a minute without her made me restless.
I had known Christina almost all my life. The Late Duke always talked about her with Mom and me when she lived at Clairings with her Grandmother. I had seen her from afar when I visited Clairings once. Her grandmother never allowed me or any other servants' kids to go near her. As if she was something pure and fragile, and we might taint her with our proximity. Christina was beautiful even as a child. Her blonde curls surrounded her heart-shaped face like a halo, and those baby-blue eyes sucked you in until you drowned in them.
I got surprised when I unlocked the door and entered my apartment. It was covered in silence with no sign of Christina.
Where was she?
I checked the bedroom and the bathroom, but she was nowhere to be found. I checked my cell phone for any possible calls and messages from her, but there were none.
Why did she leave?
Was there an emergency?
Suppose there was an emergency. She could have at least texted me about it. I couldn't understand why she would do something like that.
I called her, but she didn't receive my call. Then I texted her asking where she was, and it stayed unread.
I left her countless texts and innumerable miscalls by night, which remained unanswered. My restlessness increased with each passing second.
Why wasn't she receiving my calls?
What could be the matter with her?
Was she in any danger?
I wanted to barge into her Uncle's home and check if she was alright and why she wasn't answering my text messages. But it was already night, and it wouldn't be appropriate.
Christina, indeed, had a reason for ghosting me. She might be caught up in something and would contact me as soon as she was free.
The whole night, I kept turning and tossing into bed, waiting for Christina to text or call me. But she never did, and the sun rose in the sky.
Why would Christina do something like that?
I decided to text her cousin and ask if she was alright.
Logan: Hey, is Christina home?
I waited for a reply from him, sipping coffee in my kitchen. Even the coffee tasted like dirt to me. Without Christina, everything had lost its charm in my life.
Henry replied an hour later.
Henry: Yeah, she is home. Locked herself in her room since she returned yesterday.
What was the matter with her?
Why was she not replying to my calls and texts if she was at home? Was she mad at me about something?
I couldn't recall anything from yesterday at which she could be angry. Instead, she was in a perfect mood when I left after she had agreed to marry me.
Then what could be the reason that she ignored my calls and texts? Did she freak out because of the proposal? I couldn't think of anything else other than that.
