“See? I told you she’d come back.”

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. I didn't even point out that he was in fact packing the way everyone else was, something showing that he thought otherwise and had only been attempting to comfort me. All the while, I was actually, who could have possibly guessed this, right. She was back just like I said and believed from the beginning.

“Yep. She is back,”I agreed.

“So you done moping now?”

“I was well within my rights to mope.”

“Not anymore you're not. You got your black cat girl back. And she's even darker than anyone guessed,”He said, lowering his voice for the last part.

“She's not my girl-”
“Yet-”
“And I already knew that last part.”

“And you still say she’s not your girl? Are you a compulsive liar or something?”

“She isn't, and nope,”I said simply, standing up, putting my plate down, and walking off.

“Where are you going?!”

“I don't want to have this conversation so I’m leaving!”I answered, not turning to face him.

“Rude!”

Deciding to ignore that, I walked past people, figuring I would just go hide by the edge of the Safe Haven for a little bit. Just until it was time to have another meeting that hopefully wouldn't end with a knife in the wall. Then again, I can't say I’d mind if it did. I may have to ask her to teach me that later. It'd be a pretty cool party trick, if I for some reason ever got super into those.

Walking past Sonya and Harriet, I gave them both a quick wave. With their hands full of boxes, they just smiled and nodded.

I wonder if there's a reason girls get on my nerves just a little less than other guys. Maybe because I lived with a bunch of them. While those particular two do insist on teasing me, it feels purposeful. With guys, it just seems like they're genuinely annoying. I mean I like Thomas. He can be cool to hang out with, and he helped me out quite a bit, but his “I told you so’s,” that were literally an accident are gonna be the death of me.

On the bright side, I can always just walk away from conversations. I don't know why more people don't just do that. Everyone’s lives would be so much easier.

Sighing, I stopped at my wanted destination. Something that seemed to happen in no time since I was lost in thought. I kind of envy people that actually mean nothing when you ask what they’re thinking about. I wish I could just turn my brain off for a moment and actually relax.

With my hands in my pockets, I just stood there, thinking about how after this and the mission, I would never have to move homes again. I hope the next one has a forest close by too. Maybe even closer than this one. I like disappearing in the trees.

Leaning against the canyon, as I shut my eyes for just a moment a sudden light flashed. Opening them, I squinted until it just as quickly vanished. Stepping out from my spot, I turned my head to see where it came from just for a blur of black hair and pale skin passed by, said shiny object being in their hand.

I did not stop and think about how stupid this could be. I just tried to follow the figure with nobody even knowing where I was, turning the corner and calling for them to stop. Once again, an idiotic thing to do, but all my dumb brain could seem to think about is that the person could be hurt or panicked to be running like that, and maybe they just needed some kind of help. I didn't stop to register that them holding something shiny and sprinting like that means they were probably in pretty good shape and not wanting to be found.
