After I had changed out of my blood soaked clothes, Mary had taken me to the clinic, where Aris had followed, staying by my side. For once, I didn't object. After everything that went down and what's coming up, this was something I could get through without a second thought.
While admittedly still limping a little, I took a seat on the same spot I had last time. As Aris sat beside me, Mary started wiping my face, making me wince. The second I did, he gently took my hand in his, loosely locking our fingers together. I didn't pull away.
Pulling the tissue back, Mary grabbed a rag and cleaning product from under the bed. After soaking it, she started wiping my face again. With the overpowering smell of alcohol so close, I could feel my face scrunch up against my will, only for me to immediately force myself to relax as my nose reminded me it was hurt.
“It's definitely broken,”She spoke, pulling back again.
“I thought so.”
“Can I see your arms?”
Taking my hand out of Aris's, I slipped out of my jacket before holding them out. Seeing all the small cuts, she grabbed another rag before carefully wiping my arm off. Coming down to my hands that she had spent time wrapping, she remarked that at least those seemed a little better.
“I didn't need them,”I explained, holding his hand again the second she put mine down.
“Why are you like this in the first place?”
“I had to kill Janson. I had to get the Maze files.”
Her eyes widened as she just stared at me. With her eyebrows furrowed together, she looked both deep in thought and surprise.
“Janson?”She repeated.
“Yes. Janson.”
“Is he dead?”
Reaching into my pocket, I pulled out the folders. Placing them beside me, I just nodded.
“But it's not over yet,”She recognized.
“No. Not quite.”
“I have to go collect some people. You both stay put,”She directed, walking out, the canopy swishing behind her.
“You can't do this on your own,”Aris said quietly yet firmly, lightly squeezing my hand.
“I’m hopin’ I don't have to. I just ain't sure how many people’ll agree now that it's real.”
“You at least have me on your side. I promise.”
“It’ll be terrifyin’,”I warned.
“All the more reason to not let you do it alone.”
“I hope ya’ really know I haven't meant it. The mean things I said. I just didn't want ya’ caught up in my mess.”
“Yeah. I had that figured out a while ago, poet.”

“So tell me what happened,”Vince repeated.
“I already explained everything. I snuck out and murdered Janson to get the Maze files. It's that simple.”
“It isn't that simple. You don't just kill the chancellor of WCKD. Not on your own.”
“I did it before,”I snapped.
“You killed Ava Paige?”Thomas butted in.
“I killed her months ago. Look, why's it matter?”
“How did you know how to do that? How’d you even have the weapons for it again?”Brenda pointed out.
