I swear the life had been sucked out of me overnight, replaced with an emptiness that hurt my soul. And my head. God damnit, my head was aching, a dull throb all around my skull.
I held back a groan as I slowly opened my eyes, not wanting to be blinded by any amount of light. As I squinted though, I realized my vision was almost identical to when I was sleep deprived, blurry dots blocking my sight.
Pressing my palms on the bed, I forced myself to sit up despite the pain.
“I take it lesson learned?”
“What the hell?!”I snapped, jumping out of my skin. With me now being wide awake with a racing heart, I rubbed my eyes before looking at the four figures in front of me.
“Good morning, sunshine,”Thomas mocked, a mocking grin on his face.
“What the fuck happened?”
“Mrs.Hungover has some colorful language,”Minho tsked.
“All of you stop it,”Abby said firmly, lightly slapping his shoulder. Then, with her usual gentleness, she kneeled beside me.
“I don't remember anythin’,”I mumbled.
“I know, Flower,”she said softly.
“You ran off and got black out drunk in twenty minutes,”Aris answered, sitting beside me. When I looked down, my face burning in shame, I realized I was not in clothes I started the night in.
“Come on. You need to drink up,”she encouraged, pulling both a water and an Advil bottle out of a small bag.
“Tried to have that last night,”I mumbled.
“What do you mean?”
Not feeling like getting into that I remember everything until that point, I just accepted the actual water. Apparently, I can only trust my loved ones to give it to me. Everyone else is a traitorous, hateful monster.
Since sweet, perfect Abby already uncapped them, I got to take a slow sip. Refreshing was an understatement for it. My mouth was dry, a subtle taste of something sour still in it. I don't even want to know what at this point.
Putting it down for a moment, I popped the Advil in my mouth, past the point of being disgusted at myself for considering any kind of pill acceptable. I’m sure nothing I do can ever top whatever mistakes I made last night. If there was ever a time to disappear, now would be appropriate.
Seeing as four eyes are strictly on me right now, I don't think I’ll be able to do that.
“Why are y’all here?”I sighed, looking at my lap as I picked at the label on the bottle.
“I’m the king of hangovers, you live with that shank, that's your alleged best friend, and she's always helpful.”
“Right,”I said slower than intended, holding in a yawn. The urge to crawl under the covers and die was getting stronger by the minute, pure shame that I could be such an idiot I’d let myself lose control like that.
“You know, you don't look totally terrible for someone that feels it,”Thomas had the kindness to tell me. I didn't even bother with a response as I peeled the glue away from the plastic, an inherent exhaustion at my hellish mistake.
“‘M sorry,”I mumbled, bringing my hands to my mouth. Before I could make myself bleed, Thomas handed me a tied balloon. When I accepted the small and definitely odd gift, I realized it was filled with something squishy.
“How are we supposed to hold hands and frolic through meadows if your nails hurt?”
I opened my mouth to say that definitely wasn't happening before remembering the chance I fucked up with him too last night was high. As I firmly shut my lips, I lightly squeezed the makeshift toy. The dark purple turned lighter as it grew, whatever was inside kissing the sides.
