Epel steps out of the Pomefiore dorm and briskly walks over to the well. He stops by the well and glances around to make sure no one is coming.
"All clear on the right. And all clear on the left. No one's coming. Here goes..." Epel takes a deep breath. "DAGNABBIT AND CONSARN IT!"
After his little outburst, Epel relaxes a little. "Okay, I feel a little better now. Vil really let me have it for accidentally slipping into my accent when I saw him in the hall."
Epel rolls his eyes with a scoff. "I was born and raised in Harveston. What does he expect for cryin' out loud? I've had it up to HERE with all his stupid nitpicking! If I had a thaumark for every time he's told me 'ain't' isn't a word, or it's 'I,' not 'Ah', or 'indoor voice, please'."
Epel lets out a frustrated groan and kicks at the ground. "Well, I guess I just gotta watch myself around Vil, I don't like it, but it is what it is." He sighs. "I wish I could visit home, but our next break is a long ways away."
A ringing comes from his pocket, interrupting his thoughts.
"Huh, someone's calling me." Epel takes out his phone and is surprised when he sees who's calling. "It's Meemaw?"
Answering the phone, Epel brings it to his ear. "Hey, Meemaw. How ya been? It ain't every day you call me up on the phone. Somethin' goin' on?."
Epel's eyes grow wide as he listens to what his grandmother tells him on the other end.
"WHAT?"
You sit at one of the tables in the cafeteria with Grim as you eat your lunch. You're only half paying attention to your food as your mind is on other things. You've recently got back from camp and can't stop thinking about the kiss you and Trey shared.
You do like Trey and you didn't realize he also thought the same until he kissed you. But you're unsure whether to start a relationship that's more than just being friends with him. If the Headmage finds a way home, what would you do if you were with Trey?
You shake your head before you could spiral into a mess of what ifs. Recalling Jade's advice, you try not to worry about the unknown and just take one day at a time.
"Hey, Y/N. Is this seat taken?"
Turning around, you see Epel standing beside you. He smiles bashfully and rubs the back of his neck.
You smile to him. "It's all yours."
Epel's smile brightens as he sits next to you. "Thanks a bunch. I don't think I'd be able to find another seat."
Grim rubs his paws together eagerly. "Hey, Epel. Got any apples today?"
"'Fraid not." Epel chuckles. "I don't carry a ready supply around, you know. I just share any extras I can't eat myself when I get shipments from home."
"Aww, man..." Grim complains. "Those apples are real tasty. Wish I could get my paws on some."
Epel perks up, looking to the cat with a grin. "Hey, Grim! Since you're craving some apples, how'd you and Y/N like to visit Harveston with me? Then you could have your fill of the best apples money can buy."
Grim throws his paws in the air. "Really? Sign me up!"
"We can really visit your hometown with you?" You smile excitedly. "That would be amazing!"
Epel sheepishly rubs his neck. "Only thing is... The trip's tomorrow."
"Tomorrow?" Grim exclaims.
You hold your arm. "That's pretty sudden."
"Tell me about it." Epel sighs. "I only heard I was goin' back this morning. Meemaw sure loves her surprises. The thing is, one of Harveston's annual festivals is this weekend. And my family asked me to be there for it."
