"Mam said you were in bed," I told my Father.
"I'm working on a case," He sighed. I could tell he was having a hard time with it.
"What's it on?"
Missy was showering right now and I wanted to give her some alone time to breathe after it as well, so I went into my Da's office to find him still there.
"A woman whose husband tried to murder her and her daughter," My Da explained his case. "There have been calls from neighbours for years, noise complaints, general concerns and what-not. It took this to actually get the police involved, sadly. His motive was that their son committed suicide; it sent him off the edge."
"The daughter made it out alive?" I asked.
"Yeah. The woman was diagnosed with a mental illness, so it'll be harder to get the judge to trust her word." Da leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms.
"There's the girl, isn't there?" I shrugged.
"She's a child. Plus, the girl's off to foster care as soon as the trial ends. The mother is deemed unsuitable because of addiction and mental health. The father... well, he tried to kill her." He grimaced.
"Da, I think..." I wanted to mention my concern about Mel's situation, but then I remembered how panicked she gets every time I mention the truth.
She doesn't want anyone to know.
"Hm?" He inquired while writing something down.
"Nothing. There's a lot of people in our house, by the way, so don't be surprised."
"Huh?"
