The next day, Harry confided in Jupiter, Ron and Hermione about the task that Dumbledore had set him, though he separated his conversation between Ron and the girls, for Hermione still refused to remain in Ron's presence longer than it took to give him a contemptuous look.
Dumbledore had instructed Harry to get a memory from Slughorn about an object called a 'horcrux,' though he seemed very apprehensive about this task.
"He must be determined to hide what really happened if Dumbledore couldn't get it out of him," Hermione said in a low voice, as they stood in the deserted, snowy courtyard at break. "Horcruxes... Horcruxes... I've never even heard of them..."
"You haven't?" Harry groaned, his head falling back in disappointment. "I thought you of all people would know."
"It's got to something really dark if Riddle used it," Jupiter sighed, pursing her lips and burying her hands in the pockets of her coat. "And clearly Slughorn regrets telling him about it. We probably don't know what a Horcrux is for a reason... you've got to be pretty careful with Slughorn then... it's bound to set off some bad memories if you ask him."
"Ron reckons I should just hang back after Potions this afternoon..."
"Oh, well, if Won-Won thinks that, you'd better do it," Hermione said, flaring up at once. "After all, when has Won-Won's judgment ever been faulty?"
"Hermione, can't you — ?"
"No!" she said angrily, and stormed away, leaving Harry and Jupiter alone in the ankle-deep in snow.
Jupiter shoved Harry by his layered shoulder. "You know better!"
"I really don't!" Harry groaned, kicking away a few of the footprints Hermione left in the snow. "I mean, come on, it's been like a month!"
"If I started dating someone else, would you still be upset about it in a month?" Jupiter asked, reaching up to straighten out his winter beanie.
"Obviously, but they're different!" Harry argued with a frown. "They never dated, and this is exactly why I didn't want them to!"
"They might as well have," Jupiter said, wrapping herself around his arm as they continued to walk throughout the courtyard. "We already talked about this, Harry... you've just got to give them time. They'll come back to each other."
Potions lessons were uncomfortable enough these days, seeing as the four of them, Ron included. Today, Hermione moved her cauldron around the table so that she was close to Ernie, and ignored both Harry and Ron.
