"Stay close to the people that feel like sunlight."

"Don't go anywhere," Stan grumbled at Jupiter, his voice tinged with frustration as he disappeared out the glass doors, fishing a handful of crumpled papers from his pocket.

"'Chu doing down there?" he demanded of the boy on the ground.

"I fell over."

"'Chu fell over for?"

"I didn't do it on purpose," the boy retorted, scrambling to his feet. Jupiter squinted through the window, trying to make out his face, but the street outside was blanketed in darkness. The faint, distant glow of streetlights barely reached the edges of the road, casting long, eerie shadows that twisted and flickered in the night.

"'Chu lookin' at?"

"Nothing."

"Well, come on then, we can't wait for the grass to grow," Stan snapped, and the boy climbed the stairs.

When he stepped onto the bus, Jupiter's breath caught as she recognized her best friend, Harry, standing there, looking a little scruffy and sleepy. Her heart gave a traitorous skip, thumping against her ribs. Harry hadn't bothered with his appearance; his curly black hair was a wild mess, and he was still wearing his cousin's hand-me-downs—an old gray flannel shirt and oversized jeans cinched with a belt. But his green eyes, the color of polished emeralds, were unmistakable, a flash of familiarity that made her stomach flip.

Harry didn't notice the effect he had on her. Most of the time, he was completely oblivious to her attraction, and she preferred it that way, knowing his attention would only lead to awkwardness and, inevitably, rejection. She kept her feelings hidden, locked away. But that didn't stop her from staring just a bit longer than usual, as if she was seeing him for the first time all over again. She had fallen for him on their very first train ride to Hogwarts, and it was a fall she'd never quite managed to recover from.

"Jo?"

She rolled her eyes at the nickname, but only he could get away with calling her that. It was something about the way he said it that made it feel right, though she usually disliked nicknames. She preferred 'Jove,' the name her cousin Draco had given her as a child. Being called Jupiter reminded her of the weight of her full name: Jupiter Cassiopeia Lestrange, daughter of one of the most infamous witches alive. She felt the burden of it more than she liked.

Before she could respond, Harry moved toward her, wrapping her in a warm hug. She tensed, her mind spinning as she fought to ignore the flutter in her chest, grateful he couldn't see her face, flushed from the closeness.
