"Fireball!"

Gabriel shouted as he aimed his spell at the top of the makeshift wooden walls that were packed with goblin archers. The raging flame expanded as it neared the wall, finally bursting into a massive explosion on impact, incinerating a few archers.

This was only part of the wall, however. Dozens of savage rangers remained on the uneven wooden structure—all of them aiming for the small force of adventurers on the field below them.

"Keep distance and snipe off as many as you can, I'll cover the ground." Lynn ordered calmly as she fired an arrow into the rear of the goblin ground forces.

"Got it!" nodded Gabriel as he began whispering his chant once more.

Next to Gabriel and Lynn were three more support-group members: Rishia, another unnamed archer and the doctor in the very back.

Ahead of the rangers were the meele fighters—Ivan, Itten, Sekou, Ovro and a couple of new adventurers. They all held a sort of semicircle formation, making sure none of the goblins sneaked up from behind or flanked them.

"Hagh!" Ivan swiftly killed two goblins that stood in his path. They wore the simplified plate armor that he encountered in the mines. This time he was prepared, though, aiming at the exposed spots without much trouble.

"Xargh!" barked the sole goblin that remained in front of Ivan as it brandished its dagger.

"Heh." a smug grin had widened on Ivan's face as he raised his swords, holding them parallel to the other.

"Whirlwind!!"

The goblin's eyes began expressing a sort of confusion as it watched Ivan swinging at air.

"God damn it." Ivan whined as he dropped his hands and kicked the goblins helmet off, knocking the monster out on the spot.

I've been attempting whirlwind ever since we started fighting, to no avail. Surely it's gonna burst out at some point.

"We've got wolves!" yelled out Sekou as he was bashing a goblin's head in with his axe.

Sure enough, about twenty or so wolves emerged from the entrance to the wooden fortress, growling aggressively as their goblins masters held them by a leash.

"That's an issue." Itten sighed.

"Keep up the formation and focus on the wolves!" ordered the doctor from a safe distance. "Once we slay them we can break through their defenses!"

"Easy for you to say..." murmured Itten.

The wolves were released simultaneously, running past the goblins and straight at the adventurers. The six meele fighters would have their hands full, with at least three wolves each.

"Arghhhhh!!"

One of the swordsmen hired by the doctor got overwhelmed almost immediately as the beasts knocked him over. He didn't struggle for long as his agonizing screams turned into gurgling and then silence.

"Shit!" the other hire watched in horror as his comrade got torn to shreds.

"Gabriel, burn them while they are distracted." ordered the doctor.

"But– the man–"

"He's done for! Don't let his sacrifice go to waste!"

Gabriel was reluctant, but resolve quickly washed over him as he aimed his hand at the four wolves who gnawed at the adventurer's body

"Fireball!"

Within seconds, the stationary pack was set ablaze, along with the body. The whimpers quickly died down, as did the flames.
