Instead of going out the door of Capitano's bedroom, he helped me climb back over using the balcony.
Luckily for me, I was able to escape the eyesight of anyone passing by.
My heart was racing the whole time. All it would take was for one person to look up.
When I made it back to my room I quickly got ready for the day eventually leaving as if nothing had happened.
Capitano was waiting outside of my room ready to start the day.
I gave him a slight smile my face still warm at the thought of having slept in his bed.
"Good morning Capitano."
He nodded his head in greeting.
There was another thing I had noticed about Capitano as well. He didn't seem to speak at all when others were around. It appeared the only people he did speak with were myself and Ayato.
It made me curious as to why. Perhaps he just didn't want to be bothered by anyone... I mean if he didn't speak no one would be able to hold a conversation and take up too much of his time.
I set a mental reminder to ask him about that later.
"Shall we--"
Before I could finish my sentence one of the maids came rushing over, "Princess! Princess!"
I turned over to look in her direction as she waved at me, "Lady Yae has come to visit!"
Capitano stiffed up at the name and I gave the maid a look of surprise.
"Lady Yae...? What is she doing here?" I asked out loud.
"Am I not welcome?" It was Lady Yae.
She had followed the maid up the stairs and had that mischievous smile of hers.
I shook my head and crossed my arms, "You are welcome here, but why are you here?"
Yae smiled as she strutted past the maid and stopped before me, "A little bird told me you were going to the upcoming celebration... so I had to confirm it for myself."
I held back a laugh, "I'm not sure Uncle will appreciate being compared to a bird."
Yae waved off my comment, "So, is it true?"
I nodded my head already knowing I was going to regret doing so.
Her smile only widened, "Oh my now isn't that a surprise. You know what that means don't you?"
I raised an eyebrow suspicious of where she was going with this.
Cautiously I answered, "No..."
She clapped her hands together, "Shopping of course! You can't attend without the proper attire. It's simply unacceptable."
My eyes widened slightly. I should have known this was where it was going.
"Wait a moment Yae. I have many dresses that would be fine I don't--"
She cut me off, "Oh yes you do. You need something new for this you're the princess. You need something different. Something expressive..." She seemed to be trailing off into her thoughts.
"Oh no I don't--"
But there was no room for argument.
Yae grabbed my arm and began to tug me along, "Come now I've already booked us an appointment to try on some dresses. Plus even if you don't need one I sure do. So don't fight me."
"Wait but what about classes??" I asked tripping over my own feet as she pulled me along.
"Oh, those? Not a problem I'll take the blame."
That was not exactly reassuring...
Ayato was going to kill me for skipping so many...
Capitano followed along behind us not saying a word. Yae finally noticed him and her smile only grew.
"Ah, you... you may join us as well. I need someone else to help make judgments for our little princess."
He only nodded his head and Yae seemed pleased enough with that.
I looked at Capitano with pleading eyes but I had no idea what expression he was giving back. It seemed there would be nobody to save me from Yae's shenanigans.
We sat in the carriage as it bumped along the road toward the store. Capitano sat beside me looking out the window as Lady Yae sat across from us. Lady Yae didn't speak much during the trip she seemed to be engrossed in her thoughts. However, she would occasionally look over at the two of us and mouth some words to me.
I ignored her teasing for the most part and hoped Capitano wasn't also reading the words coming from her lips. Yae was shameless.
The carriage finally came to a halt and I let out a breath of relief.
"We've arrived Lady Yae." The coachman spoke from outside.
Yae smiled and the door to the carriage opened. As suspected we had made our way to town and were parked out front of one of the most expensive and extravagant shops in the area. Yae stepped down the carriage stairs and Capitano got up to follow after her.
When he reached the bottom and turned back holding out his hand for me to take.
When Yae noticed the action she smiled brightly wiggling her eyebrows around in a teasing manner. I took his hand turning my attention away from Yae to look at Capitano.
He was my knight this was his job...
His hand grasped mine and slowly he pulled me down from the carriage. Although his gloved hands were usually cold, for some reason today they felt warm.
