Capitano helped me out of the carriage once we arrived at the front.
Almost instantaneously there were gasps.
"The Princess showed up??"
"Theres no way!"
The people began to whisper in surprise, startled by sudden my appearance.
Nobody knew I would be attending. Yae thought it would be good to give the nobles a surprise or throw them for a loop as she worded it.
I didn't disagree with the idea because I'd prefer no one make a big fuss over my appearance in advance.
"My goodness... who would have guessed?"
They continued to whisper as I made my way down the final stair of the carriage. Capitano held out his hand for me to take the final step down. Gratefully I took his warm hand in my own. My heart fluttered and that brief distraction was enough to refocus my attention.
When I looked up once more there were still many people staring.
Capitano's hand gave mine a soft press before letting it go.
Instead of shyly retreating, I gave the crowd a polite and happy smile.
"Hello everyone. I do hope my arrival isn't an intrusion."
Some of the nobles snapped out of their daze and came rushing over with words of reassurance. Some of the other nobles relaxed a bit and returned to their previous conversations.
"Of course not we were merely taken aback. You're always welcomed to join us!"
"Princess! Princess! Come have some tea with us!"
The lump in my stomach faded and I couldn't help but smile a real genuine smile.
After greeting some of the nobles who had approached me, I let some of the ladies usher me into the manor.
I couldn't help but feel a little giddy.
"You should have told us you were coming! We would have prepared a little better!" One of the noble ladies, who happened to own the manor, giggled.
"Oh no no! You don't need to do more for my sake! You've already done a spectacular job with the place!" I felt my cheeks flush a bit.
