Chase has an absolute hatred for trains, which sounds ridiculous but it is very much true. There is just something about them that he doesn't like, or maybe it was because he was accidentally hit by one.
It was security detail on the mainland and Chase was forced to ride with another cop that was not Chief Burns, and this guy went along to pull someone over on the tracks. Long story short, Chase pushed the car and got hit by the speeding thing.
that cop was actually fired, the person who was pulled over was alright but Chase? he was in pain for weeks, he couldn't actually do patrol because the pain was as bad as it was since he had multiple bruised parts internally.
he would've went to be security detail for the contest but being so close to a train was not something he felt comfortable with, which is exactly why he had Whirl go on her own to be that security detail to help her practice, and he was comfortable that Heatwave would watch her to be sure she was safe.
hopefully he'll get over it someday.
