Chapter Fourty Two: Gathering

Daki and Gyutaro pulled out two vials fulled with Muzan's blood and drank them,they could feel their master's blood coursing through their veins and making them stronger!. Gyutaro sarcastically complimented Tengen for his three wives and confident swagger, further mentioning that none of the previous Hashira that he killed were anything like him. The demon claimed that Tengen was born special, cursing the Sound Hashira for being a chosen talent and hoping to kill him quickly. Tengen just looked at the Upper Rank Six siblings in the eye and said, "Do I look like someone with any talent?, see this country is vast. It's teeming with people who'd blow your mind. Some are complete enigmas. Some can take up a sword and become a Hashira in two months. Me, chosen?. Don't give me that crap! Just how many lives do you think I've let slip through my fingers until now?". But Gyutaro asked why Tengen was not so special when he is still alive, as his Kamas are coated in poison. Daki then mentioned that the Shinobi were wiped out back in the Edo Era, to which Tengen agreed.

The Sound Hashira then began to reminisce on his past, as a child Tengen had nine siblings. Seven where killed when he was only fifteen, causing his aggressive father to subject the rest to brutal training, with the only two survivors being Tengen and his brother who was only two years younger than him. Tengen's father also treated his wives as expendable tools to produce heirs, so Tengen vehemently refused to be anything like him. When he and his wives met with a young Kagaya Ubuyashiki, the master reflected on the difficult path they had chosen. The Shinobi had rejected the ideologies installed in them in order to be Demon Slayers, and Kagaya could only question how hard it must be for them. Yet in the face of all of this, they persist and continue to protect innocent lives. Kagaya warmly thanked Tengen and called him a "Remarkable child".

Remembering his words, Tengen declared that for Kagaya, he will always lay his life for him. Gyutaro watched as Tengen began breathing harder and mocked him for acting tough when the poison was indeed working slowly. Tengen stabed in ground and exuberantly denied this, now fully excited to battle. He twirled his cleavers into Gyutaro, forcing him and Daki to back. He then separated the two by kicking Daki in the air and slashing at her brother. As the two converged on Tengen, the Sound Hashira hurled bombs around himself to fend them off. Though Gyutaro dodged them, Daki was blown away after hitting one and was decapitated by Tengen. This made Gyutaro realize that the bombs explode with little friction. Tengen swinged at Gyutaro, using his finger tips to hold one edge to extend the other's range and slitting the Upper Rank's throat. Daki realized that she was beheaded again and cursed herself for always being the one to be hit.

Gyutaro claimed that Tengen will fail in the end as the poison will eventually kill him. At that moment, Nezuko, Zenitsu and Inosuke appeared to assist Tengen. Daki and Gyutaro stared in wonder at the three before they were joined by Tanjiro. Yoshiwara was evacuated in its entirety by the operation led by Makio and Suma. While Hinatsuru was recovering from her ordeal and slowly making her way out of Kirimise. Tengen applauded the four for their "Flashy entrances", while Gyutaro mocked them and claimed that they will all die anyway. Tanjiro realized that Daki was still alive, but Gyutaro was emitting a stronger demonic scent and must be the main unit of the Upper Rank Six. Daki claimed that the Demon Slayers can't win with the Hashira poisoned, to Tanjiro's horror. Tengen instead proclaimed they will succeed and dared them not to underestimate humans, claiming the four are brilliant Tsuguko. Tengen then revealed he had identified that to kill them meant simultaneous decapitation of both. Tengen's excitement and will reminded Tanjiro of Kyojuro, to his amazement. Gyutaro mocked their plan, as non of the previous Hashira they had faced had ever succeeded in beheading them, Gyutaro had personally devoured fifteen and Daki devoured seven.
