Chapter Fourty Nine: A Sword From Over Three Hundred Years Ago

After Tanjiro, Nezuko and Muichiro woke up, they began their morning training session. Tanjiro was sparring with Muichiro, Tanjiro had high respect for Muichiro, it was amazing to see such talent from someone so young, the match ended in a draw, and then suddenly loud footsteps began to shake the ground, it was Hotaru, who was now extremely muscular.

"Greetings Haganezuka San" said Tanjiro as he politely bowed, Haganezuka returned the gesture.

"I have been looking for you, whare have you been?" asked Tanjiro, Hotaru revealed that he had secluded himself in the mountains to train in order to make a blade that won't break for Tanjiro, Tanjiro then gave Haganezuka, Yoriichi's Nichirin Katana and asked if he could restore it, he also asked if he could help Hotaru forge his new sword, Tanjiro wanted to try and fuse his blood with Nichirin Ore, maybe that way he could finally make a sword that is strong enough to handle his demonic power. Hotaru exuberantly agreed, and gave Tanjiro a temporary blade to use for the time being, for which the swordsman was thankful.

At the village the next day, Tanjiro was speaking to Genya about Hotaru. The polishing that Yoriichi's sword required was so intense that it had killed people, which made Tanjiro very worried about Hotaru's safety, Tanjiro noted that even he wasn't allowed to watch. Tanjiro relyed his concerns to Genya who was sitting nearby, who did not care about his situation and demanded that Tanjiro not speak to him as a friend.

"Oh it's because i broke your arm in final selection right?, my deepest apologies Genya, you were hurting a little girl, you left me no choice, and to show my sincerity, please accept this rice cracker as a symbol of our friendship." said Tanjiro as he cheerfully offered the rice snack, only for Genya to smash it.

"I would never by friends with you Daken!." spat Genya, Tanjiro was so offended, he wanted to put that brat in his place!. While watching Genya speak, Tanjiro remembered that the other boy was missing a tooth, which Genya vehemently denied, Tanjiro pulled out the missing tooth wanting to return it, disgusting Genya into leaving the room. In his quarters while braiding Nezuko's hair in the style of Mitsuri's, the Eclipse Hashira mused on Genya's constant anger.

"I think it's because he is hungry" Tanjiro said to his sister, making Nezuko laugh.

A swordsmith was walking home from the hot springs when he found a beautiful and ornate vase abandoned on the steps. He reached forward to grab it but was suddenly pulled in, squeezing and crushing his body until he was engulfed. The vase then spat out his horrifically mangled body!!!.

"That tasted terrible! I knew it! The flesh of mountain swordsmith isn't fit to eat! But that is alright....as long as we crush this place. Hee! It is sure to weaken the Demon Slayers!." said Gyokko as he spat out the swordsmith's mangled corpse, the first step of his plan was successful!. Meanwhile on a rooftop, Hantengu who had joined Gyokko in the village, had remembered Muzan's anger at the meeting and decided that killing everyone in the village would please his master. While in the forest Genya had entered the hut of his swordsmith, the home was empty but Genya had found his completed Nichirin sword, he looked at it intently, musing about his older brother Sanemi and believing that "I have to do it".

As Tanjiro was sleeping, someone pinched his nose to wake him up, it was Muichiro asking for the whereabouts of Kozo Kanamori his new swordsmith. Tanjiro mentioned that he might be with Hotaru and asked if he would like to go with him and search. Seeing Tanjiro smiling brightly, Muichiro asked his fellow Hashira why he cared so much about people.
