You, the Ninja, and your girlfriends all head to the Ninjago Museum of History to find what Aspheera is looking for. However, Kai stays behind as he feels useless without his Elemental Power of Fire. A boy named Jake reminds him that Ninja never quit and runs to the museum himself, with Kai following shortly after.
At the museum, Aspheera looks for a scroll that you and the others find before her. When you touch it, it gives you immense power, unlike anything you've ever felt before. Just then, Aspheera barges in and, after a long battle, she takes the scroll as you all try to get it from her, but she easily defeats you all one by one. Her Elemental Cobras are about to finish you all off until Kai comes in after Jake is nearly disintegrated and helps you all out.
Later, you all split off into two groups, one led by you and one led by Lloyd. The group led by you heads to the sewers to learn more about Aspheera and the Treacherous Deceiver from Skales, when some Hypnobrai surround you. Meanwhile, the group led by Lloyd tries to slow Aspheera down and even attempts to take the scroll from her, though that doesn't work out entirely as they had hoped.
Back with your group, Skales takes you all to the Serpentine's library, where the Librarian, Acidicus, tells you the tale of Aspheera and a boy whom she befriended, only to be betrayed and corrupted with the scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu. Later, you all return to the Monastery and tell Wu about Aspheera and looking for Garmadon, whom you all assume to be the Treacherous Deceiver; however, Wu reveals that she is looking for him.
(Opening Theme: Wicked Whip)
At the Monastery of Spinjitzu, Master Wu begins to tell you, and everyone else within the room, about how he met Aspheera.
Wu: In the days of my father, the First Spinjitzu Master, there was peace between humans and Serpentine, but it was a fragile peace. Humans were forbidden to enter the lands of the Serpentine. And the Serpentine were forbidden to enter the lands of men.
(Flashback Start)
A young Wu and Garmadon are running around, playing with their staffs and practicing combat with each other until Wu gets bored.
Child Wu: I'm tired of the lake. I don't wanna go swimming today.
Child Garmadon: What do you wanna do?
Child Wu: I wanna go that way.
He points to a wooden sign with a snake engraved on it.
Child Garmadon: That's the Serpentine Valley, Wu. We're not allowed there. Father promised King Mambo, remember?
Child Wu: Nobody will ever know. We'll just take a quick look and come right back.
He assures his brother.
Child Wu: Come on. Don't you want to see the Serpentine? Are you even a little curious? Hmm?
After some convincing, Garmadon agrees to go with Wu to check out the Serpentine Valley. Once they arrive, they hide behind some bushes and watch everything that is happening by the Serpentine pyramid, which amazes them. They see many Hypnobrai carrying loads, while others use hammers to drive metal stakes into the ground.
Child Garmadon: Okay, now you've seen it. Let's go before someone—
Just then, Wu and Garmadon are surrounded by Hypnobrai holding swords, causing both boys to drop their staffs. They are then taken inside King Mambo V's pyramid, where they greet him as he sits on his throne. He was a humanoid, cobra-like creature whose lower half resembled a snake's tail, while he had arms and hands. He had red eyes with a ripple pattern, and his body was covered in dark blue, metallic scales. He also had a regal gold and black mark on his forehead, and wore a golden nemes with dark blue stripes, along with a golden cobra head topped by an aqua jewel. He also wore a distinctive tan and gold robe with golden shoulder armor shaped like a cobra head on each shoulder, and a golden belt.
