Janet laid back on the bed in the doctor's office and waited for the OBGYN to finish checking her. She was nervous about what was going to be said. Was her baby okay? Was she okay? Were both of them in danger? She didn't want anything to be wrong. "Okay, Janet." The doctor sat up and took her gloves off. Janet slowly got her feet out of the stirrups and sat up. "It's looking like we may have to do a c-section."
"No."
"Janet, the baby is still growing and if you carry it to term she'll be too big for you to push out." Janet sighed.
"I've heard and read about a lot of things going wrong during and after c-sections. Plus that requires me to be in a hospital and I don't want to....." Janet took a minute to calm down. She was getting irritated.
"I know it's scary, but it's what needs to happen. We can't induce because you're not in the window for that yet. So this is the only option." Evelyn came over and hugged Janet.
"I just don't want anything to go wrong."
"Look, I'll be there. I'll be doing the work and doing everything I can to ensure your baby comes with no issues." Janet sighed.
"Alright. I guess if this is what needs to happen then....it is what it is." The doctor put her hand on Janet's shoulder and looked at her.
"I know this is hard, Janet. It's very rare that a woman is okay with getting a c-section, but there are plenty of success stories. Plus, you know me." Janet nodded. "No matter what, I am going to be there to ensure that you get the proper support. I promise."
"Thank you." Once Janet calmed down, they scheduled her for her c-section and they left. On the elevator, Janet leaned against the wall.
"What's wrong, sweetie?" Evelyn asked her.
"She's just heavy and resting low. It takes a lot more energy to walk and move around." Evelyn rubbed her back and helped her breathe.
"Just take some deep breaths. I'm gonna have you sit down while I bring the car around." Janet nodded.
"Ohh.."
"What happened?"
"Just some discomfort from the pressure." The elevator opened and they walked out of the building. Janet sat down on a bench while Evelyn went to get the car. As soon as she sat down, she felt so much relief. She couldn't sit all the way back or sit forward so she had to hold herself sort of in the middle. The baby began to kick on her side.
"Babygirl, please don't kick me right now." She rubbed her belly and took some deep breaths. "I'm already uncomfortable." Her head tilted back slightly as she took some more deep breaths. The baby kicked again, but this time it was harder. "Ohhhh." Janet leaned forward a little and held her side.
Evelyn had pulled the car put and saw Janet holding her belly. She rushed out of the car and went to her. "Sweetie, what's wrong? What happened?" She got done in front of her.
"She's just kicking me very hard."
"Aww..." Evelyn sat next to Janet and let her lay her head on her chest. By now a few tears had fallen from Janet's eyes.
"I want to be done." She spoke just above a whisper.
"I know."
"I can't do this."
"Yes, you can. You got this. You're almost done and then we can get Toni a vasectomy or something." Janet laughed and wiped her face. Evelyn hugged her and let her sit in her moment. She knew that Janet was handling a lot. Not only was she pregnant, she had a one year old, was still technically a newly wed who had just moved out of her parents' house, a college student, and on top of that, just found out that she would need a major procedure to deliver her baby that was already weighing heavily on her body. It was a lot and right now she was in the thick of it. "Janet...look at me." Janet sat up and looked at Evelyn. "You will get through this. It's hard right now because a lot is going on, it'll work out."
"What if this all is happening because we moved too fast? Maybe we shouldn't have......."
