Shai's POV:
Ruth?! That's Ruth? She's beautiful, I can see what Theo saw in her. I look over at Theo, I can't even read the emotion from his face. His face in general is saying one thing but his eyes are saying another. Could he possibly still have feelings for her, after everything he's said to me. I look forward at Ruth who has a smug grin on her face and her arms open wide to hug my fiancé. Once she gets close enough Theo pushes her arms down, and puts his hands over his face and sighs.
"What are you doing here Ruth?" Theo says in his low voice he uses to show his power.
"I had an audition here in London, and your sister said I might run into you."
"Ruth, we're done. I'm getting married"
Ruth looks over to me, she looks me up and down and snorts. "You're marrying her?"
I can feel Theo getting protective, he edges towards me and put his arm around me. It's taking all of my will power not to say anything right now. She's got this judging look in her eyes, and I'm not the type to feel self conscious but sometimes I just can't help it. Is she going to be competition?
"Yes, I'm marrying her. I love her."
"You don't even know what love is Theo" She says with a laugh.
"I know it's not what I felt for you, and I know it's exactly what I'm feeling for Shai, we've got somewhere to be, don't run into me again"
Theo takes my hand and strides past her, leaving her staring back at us. I can see the envy in her eyes, but I can also tell she still loves him. Love can make you feel and do stupid things. Part of me can't blame her. If I lost Theo now and saw him with someone else, I don't know what I'd do or how I'd react. I don't excuse the way she spoke to me, but I think a small part of me understands.
"I'm sorry about her, I'll go and see my sister tonight" Theo says with hurt in his voice.
"I think she still loves you" I can't even look at him as I say it, I don't even know if I want to hear his reply. He stops walking and tugs on my hand forcing me to face him, he takes my other hand and looks me in the eyes.
"Hey, that means nothing to me, the only person who means anything to me anymore is you, and only you, okay?"
"Okay, I'm sorry." We're silent for a few seconds and he moves his face closer to mine, keeping the eye contact we've held this whole time.
"I don't even want to here you say you're sorry again" and before I even have the chance to reply he leans in closer and kisses me.
Theo's POV:
"Theo! You have to meet your sister in 2 minutes, are you sure you don't want me to come?" I hear Shai call from downstairs. Honestly, I would love her to come with me because I'm a little scared and I don't want to do this alone, but I know how brutal my sister can be I don't want Shai getting upset again. My sister never knows how to shut up when it's needed. Anyway, my mum will be there, and my mum loves Shai. I run downstairs to talk to Shai before I leave.
"I'm sure, relax, have a bath, I love you"
"I love you too"
-
Standing outside my mum's hotel room is giving me butterflies. I'm nervous because even growing up my sister always won arguments. Okay Theo, you're 30 years old. I knock on the door, three times. The door opens and I see my mum smiling and pulling me into a hug.
"Theo, darling" she kisses both of my cheeks and walks my into the room. The first thing I see is my sister sitting on the sofa with a totally straight face. "Theo" she greets. I'm just not in the mood for her right now but I'm doing this for Shai.
"Okay, I'm here to tell you to stop interfering with my life, don't talk to Ruth, she's my past, and don't talk to Shai if you're only intending on hurting her. So you either accept Shai or lose me, it's not up for discussion."
She looks up to my mum who's just standing against the wall watching, I look to my mum as well because she's the only other person in the room. My mum gives my sister and small smile, and nods at her to answer. This could be it, I could lose my sister for her stubbornness.
"I need some time" she says almost in a whisper.
"Well we're done until you decide, understood?"
"Remember blood's thicker than water Theo" she says with her stuck up voice as I get up to leave. I wait by the door to say goodbye to my mother. I step outside as does my mum and she closes the door behind her.
"I'm so proud of you," she says "you've grown into such a responsible man Theodore"
"Thanks, mum"
"You treat Shailene like a princess won't you, I'm sure your sister will come around. I'll talk to her."
"Why doesn't she like Shai?"
"I don't know, maybe she's just scared of losing you. You're getting married, that's a big deal and this will last because you two deserve each other. She's probably scared once you have your own family you'll stop seeing us"
"That's not true, I love you all. I've got to go, bye mum"
