Carla and Lisa were always on the same page. Whether it was what was for tea tonight or parenting techniques.
But for some reason. The sights didn't see the same path. They where's squabbling over everything and anything. Like the dishes not being done, Lisa was home late from a shift one day.
Tiny cuts into family life rather than one big wound.
It was a Saturday morning. Lisa was in the kitchen cleaning the pots. Carla was on her laptop. Archie's toy cars were scraping on the floor. And Betsy's phone was buzzing.
"Betsy either answer your phone or put it on silent" Lisa snapped at her daughter from the sink.
"It is on silent mum" Betsy replied.
Carla quietly laughed from the kitchen island.
"She means emotionally bets" Carla piped up
Lisa shoots her a look- the kind that would normally earn her a smile but today it landed flat.
These looks that normally earned each other a kiss on the lips of a smack to the bum landed flat all week.
Lisa let's put a huff and slams a kitchen cupboard shut. Harder than she originally meant.
"Do you always have to do that?" Lisa snapped. Turning to face her wife. Hands on hips.
"Do what?" Carla replied looking up from her laptop.
"Turn everything into a joke all the bloody time! When I'm trying to talk" Lisa growled back.
Carla saves what she's doing and shuts her laptop.
"Why do you always turn everything into a speech when a normal conversation would do just fine?" Carla questioned folding her arms.
Betsy quickly got the vibe from her parents and picked her brother Archie up from the floor and took themselves upstairs out of the way
"Come on arch. Mummy and Mumma seem to have issues they need to get through" she whispered to him.
"You've been impossible all week" Lisa argued. Stopping what she was doing and wiping her hands on a tea towel.
"Maybe I'm fed up of walking on egg shells in my own house" Carla voice raised.
"Our house" Lisa scoffed louder than she intended to. "And that rich" Lisa rises back.
"No Lisa. Recently if anything goes wrong with the kids or work you seem to need to find someone to blame. And that someone has had enough!" Carla's voice was the highest it's ever been towards her wife but she was sick of being Lisa's punch bag.
"I'm not blaming you... I just need you. Here with me and our kids. Not part time but full time" Lisa argued back.
It should have been an olive branch for both of them to hang on from. But instead it snapped.
"I am here!" Carla's voice breaks. "I do everything I possibly can for this family!"
"Then why does it feel like you've left?"
The silence fell between them. Silence that outlined every unsaid word. Every word said that wasn't meant.
Carla grabs her keys from the coffee table and heads towards the door.
"Where are you going?" Lisa sobs.
"Out!" Carla grumbles.
"Don't..... please. Don't" Lisa begged. Tears falling quickly down her face.
Carla turned back looking at her wife. She walks over. Pulling her in and kisses her on the forehead. Lisa clings to her arms like it's the last time.
Carla slowly pulled away Lisa trying her hardest to hold on to her wife.
"I'm going before I say something I can't take back"
"Carla" Lisa sobbed as her wife walked out the door.

It was 1am Lisa was lay in bed waiting for her wife's return.
She had messaged her more times than non. Promised Betsy they were ok. She hated lying to her daughter's face. She read Archie his bedtime story. Gave him his normal routine.
Ans when he asked for mumma she explained mumma had to go see grandad Roy.
She wasn't sure how long she had been lay there when her phone began to rang.
"Carla where the hell are you?!" Lisa huffed down the phone.
"Mrs Swain? My name is Sam I'm a nurse at Wetherfield general hospital. I believe your wife Carla swain was in a car crash she's currently in our emergency department"
