"I expected Atlas to be less..........." Blondie pauses
"Dreary?" Blake adds
"Depressing?" I motion around us
"Yes" Blondie points at Blake
"This is wrong" Weiss looks around, face full of dread
"What's happening?" Little Rose's hands rest on the pilots seat near my shoulders
"I don't know" Qrow sounds perturbed
"Well we're here, we've brought the lamp to Atlas so I guess we land and get some answers" Jaune intervenes
"I've never seen our forces deployed so aggressively before, if we land in a stolen ship...."
"We could be arrested" i finish her thought
"And I could be taken back to my father" her voice hardens
"Weiss, we won't let that happen"
"Thanks Silver" I nod in response
"So......." Coral joins the conversation
"What do we do?" Ash adds
"Yeah we can't just fly around aimlessly" Saph agrees
"Winter!" Weiss calls out taking her scroll out of her pocket "Silver put some distance between us and the fleet"
"Don't have to tell me twice"
I turn 180 degrees and we find ourselves over Mantle, I halt the ship when I see a massive screen with Ironwood on it
"...cannot express our appreciation enough. Many describe these as uncertain times, and while that may be the case for the rest of the world, I can tell you what is certain. The kingdom of Atlas will remain strong, and it will remain safe. That is my promise."
"He looks like he's aged 20 years" I comment
"Silver!" Blake, Weiss, Blondie, Saph, Coral and Little Rose chorus, I roll my eyes
"Ironwood what have you been doing?" Qrow lets out quietly
"This isn't right, Winter's not answering" she sounds nervous
"I'm sure she's fine Weiss" Coral comforts her
"Manta 5-1 we've noticed a detour in your route. You are to make your way to docking bay Omega 12 immediately Do you copy? Over"
"Anyone got any ideas?" I ask losing patience
"We're running out of time kids" Maria adds
"We need to ditch the ship" Blondie comments
"Obviously" I mutter
"Agreed, we need to get lost in Mantle and hide out for a while until we figure out what the hell is happening" Qrow agrees
"My sister can take us to Ironwood!" Weiss urges
"Errr Weiss!" I call out pointing to the screen
"A reminder...." Winter continues "failure to cooperate with Atlas military personnel is a punishable offence. If your sector is under lockdown..."
"Winter" Weiss' face says it all, she didn't see this coming
"No offence Weiss but I don't think that's the best idea now" Qrow says
"If I can just talk to her, then we..."
"Look I'm not even sure we should be speaking to Ironwood until we know exactly what's going on here" Qrow mentions
"Calm down everyone I know someone who can help us" Maria intervenes
"Manta 5-1 you are to make your..." I switch off the radio
"Take a hint" I shake my head frustrated
I land the ship in a dark alleyway and we all pile off running down more alleyways, we hear soldiers heading in the direction of the Manta we left behind.
"It landed over there!" One soldier calls to the others
Once they've taken their leave we head into the street, there are so many advertisements everywhere that Blake and the others read
"Come on hurry! It won't be much of a walk" Maria beckons us to follow
"Is this many soldiers normal?" I jump slightly at Jaune's voice being so close to me
"No. At least I didn't think so" Weiss answers
"Huh?" I turn hearing Blondie make a noise "its following me" Blondie kicks it and it falls before rolling onto the road where it's hit by a car
"Yeah you show em Blondie" I snort
"Whoops" Blondie cringes "maybe we should pick up the pace"
Maria mentions Atlas being a safe haven and looking out for Mantle, from where I'm standing there not doing a good job.
"This whole city seems awful" Blake voices my thoughts
"Yeah?" Some drunken man approaches Blake stumbling as he does "you don't like it here? There's plenty of space out in the tundra"
"Sorry I didn't mean to..."
"Atlas is the greatest kingdom in the world. A-righ"
"Alright!" I grab Blake and push her behind me "look around mate this place is a dump, there not doing there job and yet you still grovel at there feet, I bet there..."
"Silver we can't cause a scene" Coral pulls me back
"The embargo...the embargo's got us in a rough patch but it'll wash over soon" drunken bums drunk buddy joins the conversation
"We try and help the other kingdoms and this is the thanks we get!" The first drunken man slurs
"Oh for heavens sake, you..."
"No" Coral pulls me back again
"I apologise I didn't mean to insult you" Blake softly adds
"Stupid faunas like you wouldn't understa..." I growl and try to get out of Corals and now Saph's and Ash's arms
This guys dead
However I relax when I see him turned upside down by a familiar black glyph, he's then dumped into a bin in an alleyway along with his buddy, flask and glasses
Weiss shrugs "worth it"
I grin "I've never been prouder of you Weiss"
"Your a bad influence" Weiss adds chuckling
And we all run down the street, abruptly stopping when Maria loiters outside a door with a bright green glowing plus symbol above its door, the door opens grabbing our attention, a faunas (with a prosthetic arm) leaves the building waving cheerfully.
"And no more heavy lifting. Ya hear?" Another man waits at the door. This man is in a wheelchair and has a very hopeful aura about him.
"It's good to see you again old friend" Maria greets him and we all enter the building
"Ah yes yes" the man pauses "have we met?"
I roll my eyes "your kidding" I grumble
"Well this is off to a fantastic start" Ren pops up beside me, Saph chuckles
"Cybernetic optical implants" Maria reminds him "you adjust them every ten years or so..."
He simply stares at her for a moment
"Maria!" He cheerfully recalls "yes with the cybernetic optical implants! I adjust them every ten years or so..." he directs to us standing behind Maria as if we hadn't just heard Maria say the exact same thing. He offers her his hand and directs her to an examination table
"Oh wow" he chuckles "has it been that long already?"
"Ah I know I age like a fine wine. Would've been here sooner if I hadn't run into these jokers. At first I thought they'd need my guidance while fighting a little old sphinx." Maria narrates
"Oh did they?" The man grins
"Oh no no. They had much more complicated issues"
"And this is?" Qrow huffs
"So impatient" Maria comments "I didn't think I'd have to introduce one of Atlas' most brilliant minds"
"Working in a place like this" Blondie gestures to the building
"He likes to keep a low profile. Something I've come to realise none of you seem to have" she lastly turns to me and Blondie
"Hey I can be real subtle thank you" I glare, I can feel everyone's eyes on me "what?" They shake there heads refusing to comment
"You can call me pietro" the man introduces himself.
