S3C Chapter 77: High Expectations

Zuzu POV

The group of girls who made up the band, Ink Theory, were all strolling down the sidewalk, gossiping to one another.

Oonie: He was so~ dreamy. I kept glancing his way, but he never got the hint to come over and talk to me, though.

The tall sea urchin complained about her recent failed romance attempt.

Zuzu: Probably because you like guys who look like they can't rub two brain cells together to even keep themselves clean.

Zuzu, the Inkling girl, retorted back at Oonie, drawing her ire.

Oonie: What's that supposed to mean?

Maya: I think she means how the guys you fall for always look so disheveled like they came from the streets.

The sea anemone girl chimed in to explain the other's words with a shake of her head, recalling the looks of former crushes Oonie had.

Oonie: I just can't help it~.

Oonie gushed composedly.

Oonie: It's just a fresh-looking style.

Zuzu: Pretty sure it's the opposite of fresh actually. Seriously, you ever think that going for guys like that might be why you're still single?

Oonie: I don't see any of you doing much better though.

Oonie said a bit lowly while also wanting to defend her taste in men.

Zuzu: Wha? I've got a boyfriend!

Zuzu said after being called out.

Oonie: You do?

Maya: Since when?

Kitamura: Lucky! Why didn't you tell us?

The small, spikier sea urchin asked Zuzu happily.

Zuzu: I just don't really talk about it is all.

Karen: But we're your bandmates, and more importantly your friends. Why would you keep this from us?

The nautilus woman asked about the secrecy.

Zuzu: I wasn't keeping it from you all, I just didn't mention it.

Yoko: It's probably also just because she's making it up.

Yoko said, giving her own reason for it.

Zuzu: I'm not making him up. He's real.

Yoko: Mhm.

Kitamura: Can we meet him then?

Zuzu: What?

Zuzu sounded confused.

Yoko: Yeah, why not let us meet them?

Yoko said with a smirk.

Oonie: That'd be nice. If you're dating him, what's wrong with us meeting him?

Zuzu looked between them all for a moment before sighing.

Zuzu: Fine. You can meet him.

Kitamura: That's so great to hear!

Kitamura shirped happily close to Zuzu.

Kitamaru: I wonder what he'll look like. If he's Zuzu's boyfriend, he's got to be handsome, isn't he?

Zuzu: Of course?

Karen: All right, Kitamura. I'm sure Zuzu's boyfriend is fine, but let's not bug Zuzu with a lot of questions. You'll get your answers when we meet him.
