Chapter 71: The Results are In

3rd POV

A week has passed since the exams concluded; most students were feeling anxious about what their results might be, especially if they had not achieved the grade they were aiming for. Deuce was walking down the hallway on his way to class when he saw Dawn just up ahead. "Dawn, good morning.", he quickly walked up to her. But the girl didn't respond, her mind preoccupied by the note Rook Hunt had sent her, which still left her feeling creeped out. Perry was on her shoulder, stroking Dawn's cheek to make her feel better. "Kyu...", he squeaked with worry.

"Dawn?", Deuce called her again, and this time it got her attention. "Oh! G-good morning, Deuce.", she responded. "Kyu, Kyu.", Perry squeaked as he waved at Deuce.

"Are you alright, Dawn? You seemed a bit distracted.", Deuce asked with concern.

"W-well..." As Dawn was about to tell him about the note she had received the previous week, both teens heard a sudden yell that was too familiar to them. They turned around and saw Ace running down the hallway, chasing Grim with an enraged expression on his face. "Stop right there, Grim! I'm not gonna let this slide today of all days!", Ace yelled.

"Haha, sucker. You should write your name on it!", Grim taunted him as he ran.

This made Ace more furious as he shouted, "Why you!!"

Dawn placed her hand on her head in disbelief that these two would start an argument first thing in the morning. "Here they go, again...", she said, feeling annoyed.

"Kyu..", Perry squeaked in disappointment.

"They'll never give it a rest, will they?", said Deuce, also feeling annoyed.

"Kyu...", Perry squeaked in agreement.

Seeing Dawn up ahead, Grim quickly hid behind her legs as a means of protection from Ace. As soon as he saw Dawn, Ace said, "Ah, Dawn! If you're really a Dorm Leader and Prefect, then properly watch over your residents! This jerk went and stole the bread I set aside for a snack again!"

"Grim!", Dawn scolded as she glared at the little monster. But Grim had a haughty smirk on his face as he said, "That's rude to say I stole it. I just happened to eat it after it fell off your desk."

"You don't say things' "fell off" someone's desk when they were purposely set there, y'know.", Ace exclaimed through his teeth. Without a second thought, Ace pulled out his magical pen, pointed it at Grim and declared, "Running away like the thief you are. I'll show you with my wind magic..."

"Oh, you wanna go? I'll hit right back with my fire magic...", proclaimed Grim as he stepped out from Dawn's leg, as he got ready to breathe out fire. But just as both he and Ace were prepared to attack each other, they both suddenly halted and went, "...Ah!!"

"...You know what, let's knock it off with the magic. It would be a huge pain to have to clean windows again as punishment.", said Ace as he put his pen away.

"He heh. You say smart things every once in a while. It'd be pretty immature for me to be the only one using magic, so I'll let you off the hook this time.", Grim said in agreement.

"...Huuuuuh?/...Kyuuuuu?", Dawn and Perry went in disbelief. They couldn't believe what they were seeing and hearing right now; Grim and Ace were being reasonable with each other over a petty argument. Usually, she would be the one to break the two up along with Deuce, but this time their argument was resolved on their own. 'Am I dreaming right now!?', Dawn thought.

"It's rare for you two to stop on your own. Usually, it takes the headmaster jumping in after you've burned the classroom black to end your fights.", Deuce pointed out, equally perplexed. "Please don't remind me...", Dawn groaned as she vividly remembered that day. When Ace and Grim were fighting last time, they had used their magic and ended up destroying the classroom, which took three days to repair. In the end, the group ended up with clean-up duty to repair the damages, and Dawn viciously scolded the two for being morons.
