Things have been quiet since we returned from our weekend away. No Beth. No Notes or photos, which is good, but who knows if it will stay that way? Blythe's other sister, Emily, believes it isn't Beth behind it either, so maybe it isn't. I stroll into work and up to my office. I never saw Blythe last night. We decided to have a night apart, which is fine. It is good for us to have that sometimes. I did miss her, though. I whistle to myself as I enter the lift. I am in a good mood. I have coffee for Blythe and me.

Exiting the lift, I stroll towards her office, but the closer I get, I hear arguing. It sounds like Blythe and a man. Who the hell thinks they have the right to talk to her like that? They should have damn respect for their boss. I hurry over and walk straight in, not even knocking.

I soon realise it is Darren she is arguing with. I should have known. He hates that his boss is a woman. He is one of the few who think Blythe got to where she is because of her father, when that isn't the case at all. She worked hard. She is smarter and better at business than any man in here. Blythe seems stressed.

Darren is right up in her face. "You shouldn't even be in charge! You don't have the damn experience." He snaps.

Blythe laughs. "I have more experience and qualifications than you. Your only problem with me is that I don't have a fucking dick, nothing more."

"You are not strong enough for this job."Blythe looks like she wants to kill him. No, he doesn't get to talk to her like that.

"Darren, that is enough," I warn. They turn to me, only just realising I am here.

"You stay out of this. This has nothing to do with you. You shouldn't even have a job here, either. I wonder how her daddy would feel if he knew the truth about you two." He says with a sly look at the last part.

"My personal life has nothing to do with you. And, by the way, you are fired. I am tired of your disrespect and terrible work ethic. Get your shit and get out. Don't ever show your face around here again. I gave you so many chances; this is the last one."

"You can't fire me, you stupid bitch." I am ready to dive at him and knock him the hell out. Blythe gives me a look, one that I know means I should stay put; she can handle it.

"Yes, I can. I am your boss, remember. You don't want to listen to me, so I will get my father to tell you. Either way, you are fired." She states firmly.

"I will hear it from him." He hisses, storms off, and slams the door behind him.

I turn to Blythe. "Are you okay? What was that all about?"

Blythe rolls her eyes. "He didn't like that I moved him onto another project. I am fine. I can deal with idiots like him. You know that. I should have fired him ages ago."

I nod in agreement and hand her coffee over. "Here, you seem like you need this."

She reaches in and pecks my lips. "I always need coffee. Thank you."

She goes to sit at her desk, and I sit in the chair across from her.

"Your dad will kill him if he knows how he spoke to you."

"Yes, but he also knows that I can't handle myself." She shrugs and takes a drink of her coffee.

I do the same. As I do, something clicks in my head. "Wait, he seemed to know about us. Do you think it was him who left that at my door?"

It would make sense. He hates having Blythe as his boss because she is a woman. He has never liked me because I was brought in on a project he wanted. He seems to be the type who would do something so petty.

"Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised by that."

"What happens when he goes to your father? He has those photos. He can easily show them to him." I panic, shaking my head.

I don't want him finding out from that douche. I would rather he hear it from Blythe or me, but neither of us is ready for that.

"He won't believe him." "Blythe, he has the proof. Maybe we should tell him first."

She shakes her head. "No, I don't want to, not right now. I will tell them they are fake. He will believe me before he believes him, even if I will be the one lying."

"Wouldn't it be better to be honest?"

"No, Kade, we aren't telling him. I am not ready to do that." I open my mouth to protest, but change my mind because I know there will be no point. She has made up her mind, and I won't be able to change that.

"Okay." I sigh.

"Kade, it is how it needs to be for now. We need to make sure this project finishes well, and if he knows about us, then his behaviour towards you will change. He may even take you off it, and none of us wants that. I am not doing this to be an asshole or because I don't want anyone knowing about us. We need to wait a little while longer." She says softly.

I run my fingers through my hair and nod. "I understand."

I do, but I am worried in case he does believe Darren. He will end up hating me. He trusted me. He gave me this opportunity, and what do I do? Start a relationship with his daughter, the one he is most protective of.

Blythe reaches over the table and places her hand over mine, squeezing it. "We need to keep our focus on this project, too, along with our relationship."

I lean over the table and steal a quick kiss. "I know we do."

She smiles as I part from the kiss. "We should get to work."

We have a lot to do, so I agree. We should get started. I can worry about Darren later.
