Blythe

We need to head back in a couple of hours, back to reality, and I don't want to. I wish we could stay longer, but that isn't possible. I have decided what to do about the note and photos. I want to approach Beth about it, but I am still not certain it was her. Yes, she was my top option, but I feel like if it were her, then she would have said something by now. She would have confronted me or told my father what was going on. I don't want to approach her, and she has no idea what I am talking about. I would out us. I have tried not to think about it too much, but now that we are heading back soon, it is on my mind. Kade doesn't need to know that, though. We can talk about it later.

"Blythe, are you okay, beautiful? You seem somewhere else?"

I glance over at Kade, who is sitting by the window, waiting for me to get ready.

"Yes, I just don't want to go back today," I huff.

"I know, me neither, but we don't have much of a choice. Let's just enjoy our last couple of hours here." He encourages.

I nod and finish getting ready. We are going to check out and put our things in the car before we go for breakfast and a last walk around. We make sure we have everything and head down to check out, tossing everything in the car.

Kade offers his hand to me, which I happily take, and we stroll towards the cafe we have been to a couple of times while we have been here. I smile as I look around. It really is beautiful. The weather is colder today, and the waves are crashing louder and harder. Something is soothing about it, though.

I shudder in the coldness. Kade drops my hand, but only long enough to slip his arm around me and pull me close to him, trying to keep me warm. He is such a gentleman. I rest my head on his shoulder as we walk. The cafe is only a five-minute walk from our hotel, so we arrive in no time. The owners and staff have come to know us while we have been here, so they greet us by name and with a smile.

We greet them happily before taking a seat. It is warm inside, a lot warmer than out. Our warm drinks arrive at the table in no time.

"When do you get back on the road?" Barbara asks.

"In a couple of hours," I reply, the disappointment clear in my voice.

"Not ready to leave?"

I shake my head. "No, but we need to get back to work, sadly."

It has been nice being a couple while here and not pretending like we aren't together. No one here knows us, so they don't know our situation. It has been good not hiding our relationship, even for a few days.

"I am sure you will come back soon." She smiles.

She leaves us to take a look at the menu. I order some pancakes while Kade orders a full Scottish breakfast. I stare out of the window, lost in my thoughts as I wait for our food to arrive. Kade places his hand over mine, drawing my attention to him.

"Blythe, what is going on in your head? I sense it isn't just because we are leaving." He asks softly.

I sigh and run my fingers through my hair. "What if it isn't Beth who sent that?"

"Who else could it be?"

"I just feel like if it were her, she would have confronted us by now and told my father."

"Not if she has a game plan. It can't be anyone else, angel."

"Maybe..."

I am not convinced, but I nod and smile, changing the subject. Kade lets me, but I can sense he is starting to have doubts, too. Our food arrives, and soon, there is no conversation, just us focusing on eating. We can figure it out later.

Kade pulls up outside my place. "I will be back later." He smiles.

He wants to take his things home and get some clean clothes. He will return to mine later and spend the night.

"Okay, I will see you when you come back." I smile and reach over, kissing him softly.

"Don't worry too much, okay, baby girl."

"I will try not to. Thanks for this weekend, handsome."

"The pleasure was all mine. We need to do it again soon. You get inside, beautiful. I will be back in an hour or so."

I steal one last kiss before I grab my bag and climb out of the car, heading towards my building. I keep an eye on my surroundings for anything suspicious. I am on edge, and I hate it. At least if it is Beth, I know who I am dealing with, but if it's someone else, then that isn't so good. I wonder if Kade has any crazy ex-girlfriends he hasn't told me about? Who knows, but it is someone, and we need to find out without exposing ourselves.

I head inside, dropping my bag in the kitchen by the washing machine. I will deal with it soon. I am going to text Emily and see if she wants to meet tomorrow. I can talk to her. I can trust her. I need someone else's thoughts on this. I know she won't say anything. She may suggest trying to talk to Beth subtly and see what she has to say. I need to know what my next move will be.

Hey, sis, are you free for lunch tomorrow? Xx

I haven't seen her recently. It will be nice to spend some time with her.

Hey, yes, I can. Does one work? Xx

Yes, one is perfect. Our usual place? xx

I will take a longer lunch tomorrow. The office can cope without me for a couple of hours.

That works. I will see you then xx

See you then, Em xx

I set my phone aside and go to jump in a quick shower and change into joggers and a hoodie. I am not planning on leaving again today. Kade and I can order food for dinner rather than either of us needing to cook. A relaxing night in before going back to work tomorrow sounds ideal because God knows what tomorrow will bring. A nice, easy day would be perfect, but I won't get my hopes up for that.
