I arrive home after a stressful day. My dad fired Darren, too, since he didn't listen to me, but he never said anything about Kade and me, which has got me a little on edge. If it is him who sent those photos, then why not tell my father? Why keep them to himself? I can't help but wonder if he has something else planned. What, I don't know, but either way, if it gets back to my father, then I will deny it. I don't want to lie to him, but if he knows what is happening, Kade will be fired and kicked off the project. My dad will hate him for going anywhere near me. I hate being the youngest sometimes. He is so overly protective. When it comes to business, my father treats me like an adult, but with everything else, he still only sees me as his little girl. I love him, I do, but sometimes I wish he would back off. Kade and I both need to stay on this project because together we will do amazing things. I don't want Kade to end up jobless. If it were to get around that my father was the one to fire him, he would find it difficult to get a job anywhere else because everyone knows my father. He is a well-respected man, not only in business but in life. If people found out, then without a second thought, they would make sure Kade doesn't work again in the city. It can be such a ruthless profession. I want things to stay how they are, including our relationship.
I pour a large glass of wine and toss myself on the sofa, kicking off my heels. I am not seeing Kade tonight. I need some alone time after the day I have had. His day wasn't much better. He is going to meet with some friends instead. We did originally plan for him to come stay at mine, but plans changed, which is fine. We will see one another at work tomorrow and after. There is nothing wrong with taking a night for ourselves to do what we want.
I plan to order Chinese food, have a couple of glasses of wine and read. It sounds like the perfect night of doing nothing. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better with Darren gone. He should have been fired months ago. He is an idiot with a god complex and not a team player. He has had a problem with me since day one. He hated that his boss was a woman. It bruised his ego. It was pathetic. I am happy he is gone. We don't need him.
I take a large gulp of my wine and sigh loudly. I need to shower, but I don't have the motivation at this particular moment. I will do so soon and get changed into more comfortable clothes before I order my food. Finishing my drink, I drag my ass off the sofa and go to the bathroom to shower. It doesn't take long. I am in and out within ten minutes, changing into my PJs and settling down to order my food: chicken curry, fried rice and chips from my favourite Chinese takeout. I couldn't wait to get tucked in. I pour a second glass of wine as I wait and find something on the TV to watch until it arrives. I might take my dinner and book to bed. I can relax more in bed. It isn't late, so I won't be sleeping; it is more for comfort. I may fall asleep, though. Stress makes me exhausted, which I am sure is the same for most.

It is ten at night, and I am enjoying my book and some tea in bed, but a knock at my door interrupts. Who is at my door at this time of night? Groaning, I climb out of bed to go and check. I look through the peephole and am surprised when I see Kade standing on the other side. What is he doing here? I thought he had made plans with friends once we cancelled our plans? It was seven when we said goodbye at work.
I pull the door open. "Kade, what are you doing here? I thought you had plans?"
He lifts his hands, and there is a bunch of flowers in them. "I did, but I changed them. I wanted to see you instead. I know we cancelled our plans, but I decided to change them back. I missed you last night, and I didn't want to do the same tonight," he answers with a bright smile.
I playfully roll my eyes. "You are so cheesy." I giggle and take the flowers from him, thanking him.
There are beautiful pink, white and orange lilies.
Kade chuckles and reaches in to kiss me. "Only for you, baby girl."
I laugh and step aside to let him in. "Did you even go out with your friends?"
He shakes his head. "Nah, I went home, showered, had some dinner and decided I didn't want to go out and I would rather be here with you."
"Who knew you were the needy type?" I tease.
When we first started, he wouldn't have done this. He would have gone out with his friends. Things have definitely changed between us, for the best, I like to hope.
"What can I say, you make me a whipped-ass man," he winks and walks into my apartment.
"Just how I planned it." I laugh and lock up behind us.
The second I turn around, he reaches for me and brings me against his chest. "Oh, I knew you had a plan."
I smirk at him. "I do, and it worked easier than I thought."
"Mmm, I don't mind."
He claims my lips with his once more. I moan and slip my arms around his neck, kissing back.
We parted after a moment. "I am sure you don't."
"I hope I haven't disturbed you?"
I shake my head. "I was in bed, reading. Care to join me?"
"I am not much of a reader, unless it is a steamy one and we can act it out."
"It is not that type of book I am reading, but that sounds like it could be fun."
"Then maybe you need to go buy some new books, and we can make it happen."
"Maybe we should." I agree, kissing him again.
We part, and I take his hand, leading him to my bedroom. I know it wasn't the plan for him to come over, but I don't mind that he did. I like that he did. It isn't the first time he has shown up like this, and I am sure that it won't be the last either.
