Blythe

Kade and I return to my place after dinner. We didn't have our conversation at the restaurant. We wanted to wait until we were somewhere more private. I lock up behind us. I assume he will stay, but not only because of that. I don't want my sister showing up randomly and walking into my place. It wouldn't be the first time. She is still pissed at me. She texted me earlier to make sure I knew that. She can be mad at me all she wants. I did what was right. I did what was best for everyone involved, including her.

I lead Kade to my sofa, and we both take a seat. I sigh, turning to him. I still don't know if my choice is the best one, but Kade had a point. Why should I keep putting everyone else first?

"Kade, we are going to need to be careful. We still need to keep this a secret for as long as possible. If Beth finds out the truth, it will make her spiral. Are you sure you still want this? Want me? Even with everything that is going on?"

Kade reaches for my hand, linking our fingers. "I know all of this, Blythe. It doesn't change anything for me. I want to be with you, and I don't mean just sexually. I want you, all of you. I want us to try to be together. I can handle whatever the drama is because I know you will be worth it. Blythe, please let me in. I know we have both been burned, and work has taken over our lives for a long time, but if we go through this together and work together, we will be fine. All I need is for you to say the words, and I am all yours. Tell me you want to be with me, and I will happily let you have me."

He keeps eye contact with me as he speaks every word.

"What do you mean by together?" I ask nervously.

"I think you know. I want us to be exclusive, Blythe. I want us to be a proper couple in time. I don't mean right now. I know there needs to be a build-up to that."

It has been a long time since I was in a relationship. Work has been my focus for a while. I stare at him. His eyes are soft and pleading. A hopeful look is on his face. My heart is pounding in my chest.

"Okay, we can try, but we need to take it slow, Kade. It is a lot. It is a huge change not only for me, but for you too. I will give you one more chance to get out of this."

I don't want him to feel like he needs to stick around. I need him to do what is best for him.

Kade caresses the top of my hand. "I don't want out. Blythe, I want you. Can you please stop trying to get me to change my mind? It is made up."

"I am not trying to get you to change your mind, Kade. I just need you to be certain."

Kade scoots closer to me, rests his hand on my cheek and reaches in, pressing his lips to mine. It is a sweet, gentle kiss. I smile into his lips, kissing back. It lasts only a moment before he parts from it.

Kade rests his forehead against mine. "I am certain, Blythe. If I weren't, I would have walked away yesterday when you told me to and not be here with you right now."

"Okay, if you are sure. This isn't going to be easy, especially with everything going on with my sister."

"Nothing worth it ever is easy, angel." He smiles, kissing my forehead.

I close my eyes and sigh happily. He moves away and gets to his feet. I glance up at him, confused.

I reach for his hand, stopping him from leaving. "Where are you going? I thought you would stay tonight?"

"I plan on staying. I am going to run a bath for us. We can relax in there and then have an early night, watch a movie in bed or something. I am not going anywhere. I promise."

"That sounds nice. I will get us some wine for the bath."

With a nod, he disappears to my bathroom to start our bath. I lean back against the sofa. Running my fingers through my hair, sighing. I hope all of this doesn't go to hell. If Beth finds out, I hope Kade realises what will happen. She will make it her life goal to make both of our lives hell, probably mine more than his. To her, the biggest betrayal would have come from me, even if I did meet Kade before her. We need to be careful. Going out for dinner tonight was risky enough. We won't be able to go out and do normal things like most couples. If we want to, we will need to go somewhere else. Maybe drive to Glasgow or somewhere else, somewhere further where I know Beth won't be or knows anyone who stays there. God, this is so bad, me needing to work my life around my sister because she can't see right from wrong.

I close my eyes and take a few deep breaths. Beth needs to get out of my head. Tonight is a big step for Kade and me. We should be celebrating. I shouldn't be worrying and thinking about what could happen.

I pull myself together, stand, and go to the kitchen to get a bottle of wine and two glasses, then take them to the bathroom. I smile when I see that Kade has put bubbles in it and lit some candles. It all looks very romantic.

"What is all of this?" I gush.

"I am a sucker for romance. You just haven't seen that side of me yet. I am the romance king," he replies with a bright smile.

"I will look forward to it..."

I knew he had a sweet side. He does nice things, but I never thought he would be the romantic type. I set the bottle and glasses down, kissing him softly. "Thank you."

I excuse myself to get us some clean towels. When I woke up this morning, I wasn't sure what I wanted. I hadn't decided, but as the day went on, things changed. I didn't expect us to be ending our night like this. I am happy we are. I would never have forgiven myself if I ended things. It would have been something I would have regretted, and all because I am letting people get in my head. Not anymore. I have made up my mind, and nothing or no one is going to change that. I haven't felt things for someone in a long time in the way I do for Kade. I like him a lot. It has only been a short time since he entered my life, but if he were to disappear, I would miss him. I have gotten used to having him around. I like having him around.
