"No, this won't do."
A frustrated voice followed by vigorous clicking noises. In the dark room, only the blinding lights of the computer can be seen from the outside. The owner has forgotten to close the window for who knows how long. They appear to be unbothered by their messy room and the weird look from their neighbor across the street.
"No, still not enough."
A hand slams to the table, causing the stationaries to be scattered down onto the floor. A coffee cup falls directly to their hand, earning a frustrated groan. Thankfully it was empty and joined the pile of empty drinks in the trash can.
The computer suddenly flickers. An image of a blonde boy appeared, only for a split second, causing them to startle on their seat.
"Len, what the hell!"
The computer flickers again. No jump scares this time. Only a small chibi version of Kagamine Len peeked on their desktop.
The small blonde boy giggles.
"You should've seen your face earlier, (y/n). You look so funny!"
They look at the small Vocaloid in their screen with complicated expressions.
"Don't do that, I was so shocked! What if I made a mistake. What do I do? Can you even help me??"
"I.. well..." The Vocaloid stuttered. His hair visibly wilted from the harsh tone of their word.
They sigh, massaging their head with their fingers. Only now, they notice how dark the sky has turned and the wide open window of their room.
They tried to stand up but the long period of sitting caused their legs to weaken. A loud clatter filled the room, followed by a static sound from the computer. The chair was thrown away from the impact, they brace their head to hit the table but a hand catches their body and pulls them up against a chest.
"Ah, thank you. My bad..."
"Be more careful." The previously blonde haired boy inside the screen now appeared in the air.
They looked up, meeting his blue eyes.
Well, it's not a boy anymore.
Kagamine Len, in a clear adult form. Helped them up and close the window while they collected their trash and threw it out of the apartment.
They quickly ran back, finding Len tidying their desk and bed with a glass of water prepared for them in the table.
They took the water and sips on it slowly.
"Do you have enough energy?" They asked, watching Len from afar.
"It's enough for the entire night. Unless you wish for me to sing again..."
"No, no, no. I'm already tired, and so are you. I need to get some sleep and continue tomorrow. You can go back to the computer and recharge again."
"... Should I?"
Len approached them and swiftly took the empty glass away.
"And leaving you here alone?"
"I'm fine."
"And if I didn't jump scares you, you would've stayed working until the sunrise."
They looked up at the upset Vocaloid in front of them.
The stark difference with Len's personality inside and outside the screen always shocked them. But remembering the cause of this phenomenon, they can't help but feel warm inside their heart.

It was just another bad day, another random ramble they said to the boy on the screen.
"I want to stay small forever. I don't want to be an adult."
"...but (y/n), you're a human. You will grow up."
"I know that." They paused. "I just wished I could stay small like you, so we can be together forever."
Len pouts and raises his arm on the screen, as if giving them a hug.
"You don't need to be small for us to be together." Len said. "I can grow up with you too!"
"What nonsense are you-"
The computer screen flashes and suddenly, they feel a pair of arms pull them into an embrace. The attire looks familiar, too familiar. But the body built is different, larger, longer.
"...Len?"
They looked up to see an older version of the Vocaloid. His age clearly matches them.
"..how?"
"We Vocaloid are a blank slate."
"I can whatever, whenever my user wants."
"And (y/n), you, my user wants someone to grow up with. I can do that too."
"Music changes with time. Isn't that also a sign of growing up? Doesn't the music you listen change every year? My voice may be the same but the music isn't."
When the world evolves overtime, people changes, children grow up, the sound of music is different. But his voice is the same. A familiar, constant voice even under the erosion of time. He is real, but also not. He can stay at the same spot while also growing at the same time. A virtual blank slate that will forever unchanging, unless they want him to be.

(Y/n) looked outside the window. The lights of the city are slowly dimming. One by one people threw themselves on their bed, turning off the light and slowly welcoming the stars and moon on the sky, becoming the source of light.
(Y/n) followed suite. The computer was wuickly turned off as well as the light in their living room. Len pulled them over to their bed, tucking them into sleep.
"You go back to the computer and recharge. Tomorrow, I want to hear you sing the entire time I work."
"Okay, I'll go back once you're asleep."
"Mn... I really like your voice. You know, it always manage to pump my blood especially when I need to pull an overtime and tired."
"Not the coffee?"
Len's voice teased them but they were too tired to retord.
"... Goodnight."
"Goodnight, I'll always be here for you."

It's been 10 years. I started writing this when I was 11, now I'm already 22. Who would've expected that? I don't haha.
Many things have changed, but one thing that's still the same is how much I love Vocaloid music.
(I know we call it Synth V now but for this note I'll refer it back to what I used then years ago.)
This is low-key not a X reader but just my love letter to this music genre itself. How it saved me in many bad times in my life. Having these virtual voices stays the same throughout the years but also evolving is very comforting.
Anyway, thank you for reading this whoever you are. Whether you're my friends who was here when I was still updating this book (wow we're so old haha) or just new people that find this.
I wish you a very good day, and I hope we all can share of our love for this music genre for many years to come.
Cheers!
Fyi I still actively write in another platform (ao3) an different genres (gay sex). If you can find me... Hit me up if you can.
Another hint. I write danmei fanfiction.
