Lost In Stardust

Chapter Seven

Dax exhaled slowly.

He had watched the situation unfold from behind the wall. Taya was at a loss for words. His hands were sweaty and his mouth felt dry. He knew that this was his only chance to save Alpha from getting arrested. He plucked up what tiny amount of courage he still possessed and stepped out from his hiding place and in to the grand hall. Taya watched on in disbelief.

"What are you doing?", she whispered.

He ignored her and cleared his throat instead.

"If I may be so bold, Alpha, I think this is a good thing".

Someone snorted in the background. Alpha raised his hand to silence the room and gestured to Dax to continue.

Dax swallowed his nervousness and continued.

"Alpha, my grandma used to tell us stories of you and your family, of your incredible powers. I know that you were not born this way. I know that everything you loved was taken from you, and I know that they're still out there. And I know you want revenge", Dax spoke in a rush.

The inspector had never heard this side of the story before.

"But what connection does Alpha have with the darkness?", the inspector asked the young Nashkan.

Dax turned to look at the portly inspector.

"The darkness is a who not a what, he explained.

"And that person is the reason why Alpha and his family are the way they are".

"You still haven't explained why you think this is a good thing?", Delta asked him.

Dax turned to look at the older girl.

"Because...."

"Because, Taya interrupted him. "Because, if you guys were to seek revenge against this person, you would have to break a lot of laws to do so. And so far, you have murdered a man, stolen police records and threatened to blow up an entire police force", she explained.

They all turned to look at Alpha.

He was quietly considering all that was being discussed in his presence. The two children were right. He could not risk the safety of his family to get revenge.

A small, childlike voice spoke up.

"Wait a minute, I understand why we're here, because we live here, and I know why they're here, to arrest us, but why are you here?", Ace questioned the two refugees.

Dax looked at Taya and took a deep breath.

A few nights ago, Nashka, our home planet, was invaded by the darkness, a lot of people lost their lives, and my grandmother was taken from us, she was the one who told us to find you. She said you would help us", he looked pleadingly at Alpha.

The hard lines on Alpha's face softened a little. He felt sorry for the boy. He knew what it felt like to have your home invaded by an unknown force. To lose someone you had loved deeply. He sympathized with Dax.

"I'm okay with it if you're okay with it, Ace urged him.

"Fine, let's do this", Alpha announced.

"So let me get this straight, we're just gonna go after this guy, the same guy who turned us into....into THIS, and breach so many laws along the way,?", Delta yelled.

"That sounds like a terrible plan.....I'm in!" Omega force fully high fived an officer.
