The entire ship was quiet.
Ace and Haze had already gone to bed. Beta was taking a shower.
Alpha had retired for the night but he still couldn't sleep. His mind was awake with possibilities and fear.

His room was the largest on the ship. The bed was located near the wall. On it were grey pillows and a grey, fleece blanket. At the other end of the room was a small desk. It was covered in papers. A small lamp illuminated those papers with a dull, yellow glow. A duffle bag full of his belongings was lying on the floor beside the bed. It's contents spilling on to the grey rug that covered the floor of all the rooms on this level.

Alpha grabbed a pillow and put it over his face.
"Maybe I can suffocate myself with this",he threw the pillow across the room. It hit the door with a soft thud.

He sat up in his bed and pulled the covers back. He cautiously walked over to the door and locked it.

He sat on his bed with his head in his hands. Hot,angry tears spilled down his cheeks, falling to the floor. He had been holding them in for a very long time. His heart was writhing in his chest. His stomach was churning. He grabbed at a fistful of his dark hair. His breathing was coming out in short, uneven spurts. His shoulders were slumped.

He covered his mouth as a sob escaped his lips. He made it a point not to let his emotions show. He felt vulnerable and weak. All he wanted was for someone to hold him and tell him that everything was going to be okay. That he wasn't a monster.

"But that would be a big fat lie",his subconscious reared its ugly head.

Alpha always believed that all are born innocent by nature and grow corrupt when certain situations are thrust upon them. He had always leaned on this theory to justify the crimes he had committed. But the truth was that he was given a choice.

"And you chose wrong",he told himself.

"I could've turned my back on all those  who called us freaks or unnatural, but instead,I decided to murder them",he smirked.
He let out a short ,bitter laugh.

He was closest to Beta. He knew he could confide in her. But what he had revealed to her a few hours ago had left her broken and empty. She too hated what she had become. A freak.

Delta and the others had taken their powers in good humor. But memories of that awful place were like scars. They could never be fully cleared away.

He wiped his tears and rubbed his eyes.
He straightened his back and brought his hands together in a praying gesture.

"Others cannot suffer the same way we did, which is why I have to do this"
