What is sleep?
Sighing, I wipe off the little bit of pencil shavings that were on my drawing I was creating. I could not sleep one bit. It's midnight and I'm sitting at my desk sketching. This is my usual Saturday nights when I can't sleep. Instead of partying like any normal teenager, here I am drawing the night sky with the constellations etched into it.
After I pushed Luke out of the house I stayed in and did absolutely nothing like any other usual Saturday.
Letting out a big breath of air, I continue to mark the small speckle of stars onto the black pastel sky background. I pick up the yellow pastel utensil to color in the stars and mark the almost dead grass that was sticking up from the bottom of the drawing. As I continue to color in the drawing I hear a tap on my window making my heart drop.
Okay maybe it's the wind making the branch tap against the window.
I try to ignore what just happened and go back to the drawing, only to be pulled away from it once again with the same tapping sound against the window. Slowly I turn to the window as another tap came in contact with it. I stand from my chair and walk slowly to the window.
Don't open the window Lilly! It can be a murderer or a kidnapper.
Shaking my head at my own thoughts, my phone vibrates making me jump out my skin. I scurry towards my phone and unlock it to see that I have a message from Luke.
From: Luke
Come open your window. It's cold out here.
I let out a sigh of relief, knowing it was Luke made me relax some bit, but made me nervous because why is he throwing rocks at my window at midnight?
I walk back over to my window and pull the curtains apart. I look down to see Luke standing there with his phone in his hands. Lifting the window up must have caught his attention because he snaps his head up to the window.
"What are you doing? Have you gone mad?" I say while looking down at him. He lets a small smile rest on his face.
"Maybe just a little, but we need to talk." He says rather loudly making me shush him. He lets out a small laugh.
"Can't it wait Luke? It's midnight and you should be home."
He laughs once again before shaking his head.
"Actually I was on my way to a party, but I wanted to stop and come talk to you." He tells me while running one of his large hands through his hair.
My heart skipped at his words but I tried not to show the effect they had on me. They shouldn't have an effect on me in the first place.
"Alright. Talk." I say with a sigh.
"Can I come up?" He asks while sliding his phone into his back pocket.
"No Luke. Do you want me dead?" I say, trying to hint that my mother would absolutely destroy me. She would have a natural fit if she found out he sneaked in through the window.
"It's either that or you come down."
I let out a sigh. I don't know how to climb a tree and I'm definitely not trying to break a bone.
"Okay come on."
I breathed out while watching Luke peel off his jacket and tie it around his waist. He skillfully climb the tree as if he's been doing this for his entire life. It takes him about a minute to get up here. He climb through the window, sliding one leg through at a time before turning to the window and closing it. He turns back around to face me while letting a small smile creep onto his face. He continues to smile as he walks closer to me, leading my brain into a frenzy. I don't know what it is about this boy but not only do I dislike him a lot, he's intriguing and confusing.
