'So where have you been?' Esme said sitting down outside on the roof with a plate of pancakes. She put the plate in the middle of the table and poured herself some orange juice.
'All over the place,' Ross replied taking a pancake and putting it on his plate. 'I've just returned from Argentina.'
'That sounds exciting,' Ecie laughed. 'How long were you out there for?'
'Two months,' Ross grinned. 'I spent fifty six days building shelters, feeding kids and giving out shoes.'
'All in a hard day's work,' Verde laughed. 'Where were you before Argentina?'
'I was still in South America,' Ross replied. 'I've been moving around all over the place for the last few months. There's so much to do.'
'So what are you going to do now that you're back?' Lauren asked.
'Relax,' Ross laughed. 'I'm heading over to the Four Seasons this afternoon and I'm going to spend a few hours getting pampered.'
'When did you fly in?'
'Last night,' Ross replied. 'I spent the night in a hotel by the airport.'
'Why didn't you just come here?' Ecie asked pouring herself some orange juice. 'You're so stupid sometimes.'
Ross rolled his eyes. 'Well who cares anyway. I'm going to go home after I'm done at the spa.'
'When was the last time you saw Emily?' Esme asked.
'Before I left,' Ross replied. 'We've both been really busy lately, but we talk every day.'
'I wonder how much that'll cost mom,' Esme laughed. 'Are you going up to Calabasas?'
'Listen Ross,' Ecie said. 'You may as well just stay here for tonight then you can drive up tomorrow morning or something. You don't want to be driving after a relaxing day in the spa, do you?'
Ross looked at Ecie. 'And what's changed in your life since I've been away.'
Ecie smiled. 'Nothing much.'
'She's been training for auditions for the Lakers,' Lauren replied. 'It's been going really well.'
'You're going to be a Lakers Girl?' Ross said. 'That's awesome. Well done.'
'Thank you,' Ecie smiled. 'It is quite amazing.'
'How long are you planning on spending in the land of the free?' Verde asked.
'I'm flying out to Europe next week,' Ross replied. 'I've got a gala in Rome and I'm supposed to be presenting an award in Sweden.'
'You're a busy man,' Lauren smiled. 'When are you going to find time to rest?'
'Well the summer is coming up soon,' Ross replied. 'Spain is going to be really great. Three months of doing nothing.'
'Have you spoken to your mom recently?' Esme asked.
'Yeah,' Ross nodded. 'She wants me to fly up to Canada and do something for her. I'll probably do that in two weeks.'
'What are you doing today?' Lauren asked as she stood in the closet with Esme and Ecie.
'I'm working tonight,' Esme replied. 'I was going to go to the library later then see Taylor. What about you?'
'I've got a class this afternoon,' Lauren replied. 'But I'm working this morning. What about you Ecie?'
'I'm going to the gym today,' Ecie replied looking for something to wear. 'I'm training a new squad this afternoon, so that should be interesting.'
'How weird is it that you're going to become a professional cheerleader?' Lauren grinned.
'It's kind of weird,' Ecie replied. 'But I don't want to jinx anything.'
'You'll make the cut,' Esme smiled. 'Everybody knows you will.'
'Have you told Boston and Carole?'
'Yeah,' Ecie nodded. 'They seemed happy...'
'Hey guys!' Ross burst into the closet.
'You could have knocked,' Esme joked. 'We could have been naked...'
'It's mom,' Ross said. 'Dad just called, she's in hospital.'
'What happened?'
'I don't know,' Ross said. 'But hurry up; we're going to drive up to Calabasas.'
'The baby,' they said when Ross had left the closet.
Ecie threw down a pair of navy Jack Wills Corrbridge boyfriend sweat pants, two pairs of navy Ashover classic sweatpants, and three black Kain Lennon jersey sweaters.
'I don't know if I should really be there,' Lauren said. 'I'm not really family...'
'Nonsense,' Esme said pulling on a pair of black converse. 'You live here, you're family. You're coming with us.'
'Yeah,' Ecie said putting on a pair of ash grey Toms. 'You're coming. You're family now.'
'Okay,' Lauren nodded as she slid on her black Ugg boots. 'I should call Holly.'
'I should call Taylor.'
'We'll take my car,' Ecie said as they walked through the parking lot quickly. 'It's over here.'
'Well I'm driving,' Ross said taking her car keys. 'I know how you drive when you're anxious.'
Ecie shot a look at her older brother but climbed into the passenger's seat obediently.
