Ecie & Esme III: Forever and a Day

'Can you believe how crazy last night was?' Esme said pouring some coffee into three mugs.

'Are you okay?' Ecie asked looking at her sister then taking a mug. 'It must have been so crazy for you last night?'

Esme shrugged as she picked up her coffee and blew on it. 'I got some great sex out of it.'

Ecie laughed. 'You are terrible.'

Esme laughed and shrugged. 'What about you?'

'Oh you know,' Ecie shrugged. 'I got some good sex too.'

They laughed then looked at Lauren who was staring into space, deep in thought.

'Do you think she's okay?' Esme asked quietly.

'I don't know,' Ecie replied. 'Do you know what happened with her?'

Esme shook her head. 'I thought you'd know.'

Ecie shook her head.

'Hello? Earth to Lauren,' Esme said waving her hands. 'I don't think it's working.'

Ecie got up and took out a wooden spoon from the draws. She threw the spoon in Lauren's direction and ducked.

'Huh?' Lauren looked at Esme and Ecie. 'What?'

'Coffee,' Esme pushed her mug in front of her. 'Is there anything wrong?'

Lauren shook her head and touched her hair. 'Yeah.'

'What is it?' Ecie asked.

'I've been fucking Verd since before I moved in here,' Lauren replied staring and picking up her mug. She blew it then took a long, slow sip. 'I've been fucking Verd.' Lauren put her mug down and sighed.

'Wow!' Esme stared at Lauren. 'Seriously?'

Lauren nodded. 'Yep.'

'I totally knew it,' Ecie said. 'I mean, I didn't think it was Verd, but I totally knew you were fucking somebody.'

'How many times have you been with Ethan?'

'Once,' Lauren replied. 'I've only slept with my boyfriend once, but I've slept with Verd like a thousand times.'

'Does Ethan know?'

'We're taking a break,' Lauren replied. 'I need to think about what I'm doing.'

Esme and Ecie looked at each other, exchanging identical looks, then shrugged, not knowing what to say.

Lauren smiled. 'Verd is so amazing. He's an incredible guy and I love him so much. He's my bestest friend and he's so caring.'

'So then dump Ethan and be with Verd,' Esme said. 'It's that simple.'

Ecie shook her head.

'I'd feel so horrible,' Lauren replied. 'It sounds stupid...'

'But you'd rather continue to cheat on him than face him,' Ecie finished. She smiled at Lauren. 'I know what you mean. Trust me.'

'What did you do?'

'You're way more better than me,' Ecie smiled. 'I was a coward, but you're not.'

Lauren nodded. 'I'm going to tell him it's over.'

Ecie nodded and smiled. 'Good.'

Esme nodded too then thought. 'Wait, who? Tell who it's over? Ethan or Verd? I'm lost.'

'Forget it Es,' Ecie laughed. 'She'll tell us all about it later.'

'Yeah,' Lauren nodded. 'You guys will be the first to know.'

'What are you doing today?' Ecie asked.

'Nothing,' Lauren replied. 'I've got no classes and I'm not working either. I was just going to stay home and mope while watching day time TV with a box of cereal.'

'Well not anymore,' Ecie grinned. 'You're coming to the gymnasium with me and you're going to watch my girls kick butt for the scouts.'

'I thought they came yesterday,' Esme said. 'What happened?'

'They did come,' Ecie replied. 'But it's like a three day thing. It's ongoing. You should come down too when you're done.'

'Ha,' Esme laughed. 'Do I really want to spend my whole afternoon watching a bunch of cheerleaders?'

'Yes?' Ecie and Lauren laughed.

'Fine,' Esme laughed. 'I'll see you down there after my class.'

'Great,' Ecie grinned. 'Now in the mean time we need to get dressed.'

'To the closet,' Esme chorused. 'Let's go.'
