Our timing sucks, I must say. It's the damnest thing in the world. Whenever I'm free for the day, Jess would have a meeting or a site visit to one of her projects here in London. And when she's finally free, bam, an interview or a photoshoot came up. We haven't got a whole day together at all since Jess visited me last week. It's a good thing that she could extend her visit here by taking over some of her firm's project in London. Otherwise, I don't think that I could let her go. She's a necessity for a good day now. Whether it's only seeng her easy smile in the morning or just spending the whole night getting to know each other better. We're taking our relationship so damn slow, we haven't done other things beside kissing, cuddling and probably some more. I have never done that before, taking it so slow. It's not like the passion isn't there. No, sir. It's there allright, barely contained. But it's like having a wonderful meal, you just want to enjoy every single bite slowly. Savoring every single taste on your tongue and loving every single bit of it.
Okay, there's another reason why I haven't been ready to done the deed yet. Well, I'm afraid. Jess already has this kind of effects over me from such a brief time, I'm afraid of how much taken I would be with her if I took the next step. That's why I'm meeting with Jourdan and Karlie now. A little woman talk is in order to sort my feelings out. And I miss my girls. Man, I haven't seen them for months, I think. That's one of the downside of having friends who works at all over the world. Our jobs take us where ever we dream to be alright. But it takes us away from each other too, away from the ones who matter the most to us most of the time. There, another reason for being afraid of my developing relationship with Jess. I'm afraid that she couldn't see past that, the mundane schedules and scarce quality time with me.
"So, enough of the small talks." Jourdan puts her cup on the table in decisive manner, while throwing me one of her pointed looks. The one who means business. "Now, spill. That do you want to talk about with us?"
"What?" I am almost offended by her bluntness, but she's right, of course. But I still feign a hurt expression. "Why do you think that I have something specific to talk you two? Can't friends just meet and catch up with each other lives?"
Karlie laughs at my mock offended look. "Oh, please sweetie. I would believe that if you're not practically begging us to come today. Your call did have some sense of urgency in it."
"Yeah, like this," Jourdan continues, mimicking my previous call with her. "Hey, Dunn. You're free today right? You're not? Well, you're free now. We have to meet for a lunch, you know, to catch up. Well, I do have something to tell. About what? Oh, it's not that important. Just come, okay? Bye. Love ya."
Karlie and Jourdan burst into laughter again, ignoring my growing irritation. Apparently my intention to see my best friends is amusing to them. Thanks a lot, guys. I wait impatiently for their laughter to subside.
"You guys done yet?" With their nod, I continue. "Well, you're right. I do have some news."
"So, who's the girl, Cara?" Jourdan wiggles her eyebrows at me playfully. Karlie just smiles at my blushing face, confirming the obvious. "Oh, she's blushing now. You must really like this new girl."
"Shut up. Don't make this more embarrassing than it already is. Well, it's this girl who I met at the last fashion week. She's the runway designer."
Jourdan claps her hands enthusiastically. "Oh, I love the stage! She's really talented, Cara. Well, you do always like the artsy ones."
"Yeah, they draw you in like a magnet," Karlie says. "But never strong enough to keep you around."
"I know. But I think this is different. She's, well, she's not like the girls that I've been with before."
"What do you mean?"
"She seems very serious about it, about us. Well, she flied here just to see me, to let me know that she wants me."
"Ah, a romantic." Karlie laughs in delight. "That's good. It showed that she cares about you, sweetie. "
"I know." I nod in agreement. "But what if I messed this up again? There's too much differences between us. For one, she's not a part of this show biz world. I don't think that she could handle all of this."
"Oh, come on. Don't give up yet, babe." Jourdan smiles reassuringly at me. "A new relationship is always hard at first. And if you think that she's worth the effort, then why hesitate?"
"Yeah," Karlie agrees. "Maybe we should meet this girl. To see her intentions."
I groan at Karlie's words. Not this again. They would scare her away, that's for sure. After my last heartbreak, which were resulting in another breakdown for me, they have taken job of sizing up all of my dates. To scare away the heart breakers, they said. "I don't think that it's a good idea. At least for now."
"Oh, come on. We'll be good, I swear." Then Jourdan and Karlie share a knowing look together and laugh again. I swear they have something suspicious going on. Nope, Jess won't be anywhere near them in the near future.
"What she's like anyway?"
"Well, she's really cute. Really enticing smile, the loveliest I've ever seen." I smile at the thought of Jess smiling at me. Before I get a chance to continue, my phone rings. "Oops, speaks of the devil. It's Jess. Excuse me."
"Hey, love. What's up?" I say to Jess, ignoring Jourdan's smooching voices in the background.
"Well, I'm done for the day and went home to find it's empty." I smile when she calls my apartment home. I like how it sounds. "I'm just wondering, do you want to grab something to eat? I'm starving."
"Um, actually I'm having lunch with Jourdan and Karlie now. Do you want to join us?" Karlie whoops excitedly at the prospect of meeting this new girl of mine.
"Oh, I don't know. I don't want to interrupting anything, Cara."
"Well, you won't. They actually can't wait to meet you."
"Have you been talking about me, babe?" Jess sounds partly amused and a little bit worried.
"It's all good, I swear. Come on, meet with my friends." Then after she agreed, I tell her the name and address of the restaurant. After I hung up, I put my phone back on the table. When I look up, I find two grinning face looking back at me.
"There you go. She's coming. Happy?" They nod. "You promise to be good, right?" Another exchanged glances.
"Oh, I don't know, honey. Now she's coming, you can't control our behaviour anymore." After she said that, Jourdan does a high five with Karlie. Oh, boy. I don't feel good about this.
