Chapter 31,
--Gracie's POV--
The daylight had gone some time ago, meaning that night had come and that midnight was close. I was about to pass through another gate.
I was beginning to lose hope in Sibuna. Did they even know that I'm still alive at this point?
I had entered the gate's a long time ago and I've lost contact with Isis. I think it was sometime after the Third hour that her voice cut out. She hasn't said anything since, I think I'm too far into the gates for her to speak with me.
I was placed inside a boat about seven weeks ago and I've been floating throughout cities since. Into several gates and out of them. I had entered the seventh city Tephet-Sheta some time ago, it was only a matter of time before I left through the eighth gate and entered that city.
Don't get me wrong, the cities were very elegant and looked beautiful but nothing could compare to how much I missed Earth. How much I missed my friends. To how much I missed my sister.
"You think great thoughts for someone who's dying." A voice sounds from out of nowhere. The voice stressed the S's in his sentences.
My eyes rounded as a serpent appears, it came out of the water and slithered up onto the seat across from me on the small wooden boat.
"Who are you?" I ask. I had been alone this whole journey, why show up now?
"I am Mehen. I'll be accompanying you for the time being." He hisses. "I always show up at midnight during the seventh hour."
Midnight already? I look up and sure enough I saw that the small wooden boat was approaching another gate. The word, Tebat-Neteru-Set was etched at the very top suggesting that the name of the city was that. The gate name, Aha-An-Urt-F was underneath the city's name. I sighed, I look over the edge of the boat staring at my reflection in the water.
"Is it possible for me to jump into the water and waste some time?" I ask the serpent.
He hisses at my question. "No, that is not a wise idea."
"I figured." I frown.
Mehen cocked his head as he stared at me. "Why do you look so down? We're almost to the afterlife?"
I look up towards him. "I just don't think it's my turn to go there yet."
"Nonsense, you're Isis's descendant are you not?" He asks.
I nod. "Yeah, why?"
"This is often the fate of her descendant's." He says, his tongue flicking out of his mouth. "The last one was so crazy, he made it to the ninth hour."
"What? There were descendant's before me?" I ask, my jaw had dropped.
"Of course." He snorts. "There have been many before you. There'll be many after you."
"Wait you said he made it to the ninth hour, isn't there twelve? Did he make it out somehow?" I ask, the eighth gate was meters away now. I swallow as it got closer.
"Yes there's twelve. And no he didn't make it out. He didn't get off the boat when he was supposed to." He hisses, shaking his serpent head. "The boat stops in the city of Bes-Aru, in the ninth hour. You must get off or you'll find out what happened to him."
He didn't make it out?
"I just want to return home." I tell him.
Mehen hisses once again. "Why? The afterlife has many things to offer you. More than the mortal world."
"I'm not done in the mortal world yet." I reply. I look up as we pass underneath the eighth gate into the eighth hour.
Mehen sighs. "Welcome to the city of Tebat-Neteru-Set."
"Thanks." I offer him a very small smile.
"I must be going then." He slithers up towards me and I flinch back as he wraps around my arm. He sinks down into my skin, appearing as a tattoo. It wrapped all the way up my forearm up a little past my elbow. "I'll help you forget."
I frown down at the serpent as a small electric shock shudders through me.
I blink confused, what was I thinking about just now? Wow, at night the eighth hour looks very beautiful. My eyes rounded at the sight. Maybe this wasn't so bad after all. All my bad thoughts from earlier seemed to disappear. I think I'm ready for the after life after all.
I lay my head down on the edge of the boat and stare down into the crystal clear water. So pretty. I wish the boat would move faster, I couldn't wait until the ninth hour. I would get to get off the boat and walk throughout the city of Bes-Aru.

A/N:
Here's another chappy! This time in Gracie's pov! I wanted you to know that she's still alive. She's in the eighth hour currently. If you couldn't tell at the end Mehen, the serpent tweaked her thoughts a bit. She began thinking of how great it would be to get to the afterlife instead of dwelling on her mortal thoughts. Mehen, that dirty serpent! But maybe it's a good thing that she's not worrying anymore!
Sorry for using all those weird city names, you probably can't pronounce them, I know I can't. But they are the names of the actual cities in the hours.
Also, sorry this might not be the best chapter! It's been a while since I last wrote in Gracie's pov!
