A warm breeze drifted through the dusty library as Harry, Ron, Cathy, and I sat working on our essays for History of Magic. It was fairly easy, but I wasn't a very fast writer so it would take me a bit longer. Hermione had finished hers the day Professor Binns  told us of the assignment, meaning she had some free time. I heard a loud groan and the pounding of feet. Hermione sat down in her chair rather harshly, looking frustrated. "Hogwarts: A history is all checked out! I have my own copy but it's at home!" Mione cried in a whisper.
"What do you need it for? You've read it 50 times already!" Ron asked astounded.
"The same reason everyone else does! To read up on the Chamber of Secrets!" Hermione snapped, rolling her eyes. I shared an annoyed glance with Harry, and Cathy, these two never stop fighting!
"Oh for heavens sakes you two! Would you both just get along for five minutes so I can finish my essay!?" I snapped, glaring at them.
"Sorry." They mumbled, hanging their heads. I just rolled my eyes continuing my essay. I finished it quickly along with Ron, Cathy, and Harry right before we had to start leaving for Binn's next class. We had today and tomorrow to turn our essays in. I grabbed my bag off the back of my chair and followed behind Ron and Hermione who had now started bickering again, while Cathy walked ahead of us, obviously wanting to get away from the duo. "Met you there?" She called back. I nodded, smiling at her. She returned the smile before skipping off. I grabbed Harry's hand so I didn't get lost in the sea of students.
"Have you written to Sirius yet?" Harry asked me. I sighed, feeling guilty.
"Yes and no. I've written to him through letters but he's been coming to visit me. I don't know why, I don't think it's just because he's my dad, I think something else is going on, but I wish I knew what...." I sighed, biting my lip as I thought.
"I don't know. Maybe he just misses you? I mean he isn't really to of fond of being alone...." Harry sent me a sad look. I sent one back, I went to Azkaban once and I never wanted to go back. There were Dementors everywhere, and everyone looked like they would beat me up. Luckily it hadn't happened but still...
"Probably." I sighed, sitting beside Harry. The class quickly started and kids handed in their essays, leaving them on a desk in the front of the room. The lesson started out boring until Hermione did something nobody has done before, she put up her hand. Binns, who had glanced at the middle row were Hermione and Ron sat, looked startled, staring in amazement before speaking,
"Miss-er-?" Binns looked confused, scratching his head. I giggled a bit. It's not actually that funny, he just seemed so surprised! I don't think he gets many questions, people probably just sleep in this class.
"Granger, sir. I was wonder if you could, um, tell us about the Chamber of Secrets?" Hermione asked, trying to sound confident while every student stared at her curiously. Binns blinked.
"This is History of Magic Miss. Granger," Binns said pointedly, "I deal with facts, not myths and legends." Binns finished, looking rather stern. He nodded, as if to confirm something before clearing his throat and starting again. This time Cathy, and I raised our hands. Binns looked surprised again before calling on us.
"Sir, don't legends always have a basis in fact?" Cathy and I chorused, receiving strange looks. What? We do it all the time!
"Well, I suppose you could argue that..." He sighed glancing at the class which were staring at him intently. "Oh, alright. Let me see....the Chamber of Secrets...." Binns trailed, his usual monotone voice still in place though I think nobody cared at this point. "You all know, of course, that Hogwarts was founded over a thousand years ago-the precise date is uncertain- by the four greatest witches and wizards of age. The four school Houses are named after them: Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin. They built this castle together, far from prying Muggle eyes, for it was an age were magic was feared by common people, and witches and wizards suffered much persecution."
I winced, remembering an old movie I watched with my Aunt and Uncle. They would make me watch tapes of witches being burned at the stake. I hated watching them.
"For a few years, the four founders worked in harmony together, seeking out youngsters who showed signs of magic and bringing them to the castle to be educated. But then disagreements sprung up between them. A rift began to grow between Slytherin and the others. Slytherin wanted to be more, um, selective about the students admitted to Hogwarts. He believed that magical learning should be kept within all magical families. He disliked taking students of Muggle parentage, believing them to be untrustworthy. After a while there was a serious argument between Slytherin and Gryffindor, and Slytherin left the school."
I shot Hermione a sympathetic look, knowing her, she was offended by that. She won't show it but she is. Harry looked uncomfortable as well, though he wasn't Muggleborn, his mum was. Oh, I feel so sorry for Lily! I hope no one called her a Mudblood like Malfoy called Hermione! I grabbed Harry's hand, smiling encouragingly. He smiled back, and looked back at Binns.
"Reliable sources tell us this much," He paused, "but those facts have been obscured by the fanciful Chamber of Secrets. The story goes that Slytherin had built a chamber somewhere in the castle, which the others knew nothing of.
Slytherin, according to the legend, Slytherin sealed the Chamber of Secrets so that none would be able to open it until his own true heir had arrived at the school, and he alone would be able to release the horror within. Naturally the school had been searched many times, but no such chamber had been found..." Binns trailed off.
We all looked at him hopefully, hoping for more. Binns made a strange noise, looking annoyed. "Of course the whole thing is nonsense. Made up." He said quickly. I raised my hand again. What horror?
"What do you mean 'The horror within'?" I asked, watching Binns shift uncomfortably.
"It is said, that a monster resides there...."

"I wonder what kind of monster?" Cathy mused, clutching her books to her chest.
"Maybe it's a giant spider...." I giggled. Cathy rolled her eyes, scowling.
"You just had to ruin it!" She said sarcastically, smirking.
"Well somebody had to suggest something." I shrugged sitting at the table. As if on cue, a large black owl came swooping down, landing in front of me. Confused, I took the letter it had.
"That's rather strange. Owls usually come at breakfast...." Hermione said hesitantly. I agreed, opening the letter. It was from dad.

Dear Rose,

Rose, I need you Cath and Harry to met me at 11:30 tonight. It's a full moon, and I'm not as young as I once was. I hate putting you all in danger, but I know you lot would have bugged me about it anyway. Knowing you, once you and Cathryn found out about the full moon you would send Remus and I a letter about it. Harry would come along to of course, you wouldn't want him to but he'd come anyway.
I've sorted things out with Dumbledore, so don't worry about detentions. Bring your wands just in case. Also, there is a potion that Remus will be taking that will make him less dangerous, so don't worry about that either. I love you all!

          Love,
                     Dad/Uncle/Sirius

I finished it quickly, making sure Cathy and Harry got to see it. "What was that about?" Ron asked, trying to read the letter.
"Dad was just asking if I wanted to come home for Christmas." I shrugged, continuing with my food. Hermione looked at me suspiciously, eyeing me.
"Your lying." She said, her eyes showing hurt.
"No I'm not." I said, making sure I didn't say it to quickly.
"Then why can't Ron and I read the letter?" Mione asked. I bit my lip, thinking of an excuse.
"Because, um, because-" I stopped when Cathy cut me off.
"Because Sirius wanted to know what you lot wanted for Christmas and was suggesting somethings." Cathy lied easily. She is a really good lier! She looked so calm! Guess she gets it from her father, from what I've heard Uncle Regulas was a very good lier himself. Hermione eyed her to, before backing down. I eternally sighed in relief. That was to close....
