"C'mon. We should go see Lockhart, tell him what we know." Ron said suddenly, after the teachers had left. Nodding in agreement, we ran off towards Lockharts office. We quickly reached it, knocking on the door. All the movement that was going on inside stopped, and we could hear heavy breathing through the door. The door opened the tiniest crack, and Lockharts eye looked out.
"Oh - Mr. Potter - Mr. Weasley - Ms. Black -" Lockhart panted, opening the door a bit more. "I'm quite busy at the moment - could you make it quick-?"
"Professor, we have some information for you." Harry said. "We think it will help you."
"Well - Um - alright." Lochart sighed, opening the door wide enough for us to step inside. Upon walking inside, we noticed the office was almost completely stripped. Trunks lay full of clothes, and books were put in small bags.
"Going somewhere, Professor?" I asked angrily.
"Er - well, yes. Urgent call - couldn't miss it-" Lockhart stuttered.
"What about my sister!?" Ron asked jerkily.
"Ah, yes. Terribly sorry about that-" Lockhart said hurriedly, emptying some contents from a drawer. "No one regrets more than I-"
"But your the Defense Against The Dark Arts Teacher!" I exclaimed, glaring at him.
"You can't go now! Not with all the dark stuff going on!" Harry yelled, standing beside me.
"Well, yes - but when I took the job - description said nothing about - didn't expect-"
"So you're running away? After all that stuff you did in your books-"
"Books can be misleading." Lockhart said exasperated, cutting Ron off.
"My dear boy." Lockhart sighed, looking down at Ron. "Do use your common sense. My books wouldn't have sold half as well if people didn't think I'd done all those things. No one wants to read about some ugly old Armenian warlock, even if he did save a village from a village. He'd look dreadful on the front cover. No dress sense at all. And the witch who vanished the Bandon Banshee had a hairy chin. I mean, come on-"
"So you've just been taking credit for things other people have done!?" Harry said incredulously.
"Harry, Harry." Lockhart said, shaking his head impatiently. "It's not as simple as that. There was work involved. I had to track these people down. Ask them exactly how they managed to do what they did. Then I had to put a Memory Charm on them so they wouldn't remember what they did. If there's one thing I pride myself on, it's my Memory Charms. No, it's been a lot of work, Harry. It's not all book signings, and publicity photos, you know. You want fame you have to be prepared for a long hard slog."
He shut the lids of his trunks, before looking around. "Yes, I think that's everything. Except one more thing." Lockhart said, before brandishing his wand. "Awfully sorry about this, you lot, but I'll have to put a Memory Charm on you now. Can't have you blabbing my secrets all over the place. I'd never sell another book-"
"Expelliarmus!" I yelled, which sent his wand soaring from his hand and out of the window. "Shouldn't have let Snape teach us that one." I said, kicking his trunk aside. Lockhart looked at me feebly, whimpering a bit as I pointed my wand at him. "Let's go." I said, grabbing his arm and pushing him out of the office, wand pointed at him the whole way there. "C'mon." I said to the boys. They followed, looking at me in awe.
"Have I ever told you how wicked you are? Scary, but wicked." Ron grinned. I grinned back at him, leading the way to Myrtles bathroom. I pushed Lockhart in first, happy to see him shaking. Myrtle sat on top off one of the stall doors.
"Oh, it's you." She said. "What do you want this time?" She asked us.
"We came to ask you...how you died." I said, shutting my eyes and preparing for the screaming, but it never came. Instead, when I opened my eyes Myrtle looked at me happily.
"Oooooh, it was dreadful." She smiled. "It happened right in here. I died in this very stall. I remember it so well. I was hidden in here because Olive Hornby was teasing my about my glasses. The door was locked, and I was crying, and then I heard somebody come in. They said something funny. In a different language. Anyway, what really got me was it was a boy speaking. So I unlocked the door to tell him to 'go away' and then-" Myrtle swelled importantly, her face shining. "I died."
"But how?" I pressed.
"No idea." She said in a hushed tone, "all I remember is a see a pair of great, big, yellow eyes. My whole body sort of seized up, and then I was floating away..." She said dreamily. "Then I was back. I was determined to haunt Olive Hornby, you see. Oh, she was sorry she'd ever laughed at my glasses."
"Where exactly did you see the eyes?" I asked. She pointed vaguely to a sink in front of the sink. I glanced at Lockhart, who stood stock still, a look of utter horror on his face. After a few minutes of searching, Ron pointed out a small snake etched onto the side of the faucet.
"Harry, say something in parstletounge." Ron said hurriedly.
"Open" Harry said, but it was in english.
"Nope." I told him. Sighing he tried again.
"Open." This time, something strange happened. The next few seconds went by quickly, and before we knew it a pipe was exposed where the sink once was. It was big enough for a person to slide through. "I'm going down there." Harry said.
"Me too." Ron agreed.
"Me-" I started but was cut off.
"No. You're staying here. Go get McGonagall and the rest of the teachers. Tell them where we've gone." Harry told me, watching me pointedly.
"What!?" I shrieked. "No way! I'm going." I said stubbornly.
"No, you're not." Harry said.
"Harry, I know you might be worried but I need to come." I told him. "How are you gonna get out? I can use my magic! I could help." I told him sincerely, gripping his robe sleeve. He paused before sighing.
"I'm sorry, but it's to dangerous. I don't want you to get hurt again." Harry said. Then he grabbed, Lockhart, gave me a kiss and jumped down. Ron looked at me sadly, before following. Glaring at the hole, I made a split second decision and jumped down.
