When Rose awoke the first thing she saw was a pair of bright blue eyes. Yelping, Rose bolted up and managed to bump her head into the other persons. "Ow! Bloody hell, Rose!" Hamish groaned, holding his forehead as he backed away from her.
"Oh! Hamish, are you alright?" Rose asked, looking concerned as she sat up all the way to look at him properly.
"I'm fine," Hamish chuckled, his hand dropping down to his side. "Don't know about Harry, though." Hamish glanced over at Harry, who was laid on the opposite set of seats Rose had been on.
"Harry!" Rose gasped, rushing over to sit beside him. "Will he be alright?" Rose asked, pushing some hair away from his face.
"Yes, he should be fine. Just passed out. Professor Lupin and the others went to speak to the conductor. Something about asking why the dementor-"
"Dementor?" A groggy voice asked from beside Rose.
"Harry!" Rose and Hamish chorused. Rose quickly wrapped him in a hug, breathing a sigh of relief when he hugged her back. "Are you alright? Do you feel queasy?" Hamish asked, running a hand through his curly, blonde hair.
"I feel a bit dizzy, but I don't think there's anything seriously wrong," Harry told Hamish quietly, sitting up properly when Rose had let go of him. Hamish nodded and mumbled something about going to get the others and then left the compartment. Once Hamish had left, Harry looked at Rose with concern.
"Did you hear it too?" It was a rather blunt question, one that Rose was not prepared for. It took her a few moments to respond, and when she did it was a singular word.
"What?"
"The scream. Did you hear it?!" Harry asked urgently, his tone practically begging her to understand and to have heard what he had. Rose thought back to right before she had blacked out, and tried to remember a scream of any kind. Rose sat for a few moments before she finally remembered, flinching when it suddenly rang through her ears again. Rose squeezed her eyes shut and nodded her head quickly, tears stinging her eyes. Before Harry could reply the door swung open and both teens were engulfed in large hugs from their friends.
"Oh, I'm so glad you two are alright! We were worried sick!" Hermione fussed, feeling their foreheads to check their temperature. Ginny and Ron both grinned at Harry and Rose happily, obviously relieved that the two seemed perfectly fine. Something snapping was heard from the doorway, and they all turned to see Remus breaking pieces of chocolate off of a candy bar.
"Eat, it will help," Remus told them gently, handing out chocolate to everyone in the compartment. They all greedily took the chocolate and began munching on it happily, warmth beginning to fill up their insides once again. "I assume they're looking for Elizabeth Alric. The Dementors, I mean. She was a great person back when I went to school with her. Can't believe she would go and turn on some of her closest friends..." Remus muttered to himself, taking a bite of his own chocolate.
"What do you mean?" Ron asked through a mouthful of food. Remus glanced at him before sighing. He knew they would find out one way or another. They always did.
"Elizabeth was a friend of mine when I went to Hogwarts. She was quite remarkable. Incredibly talented and clever, she was easily one of the best students of our year. She was an old friend of Jane and Lily's. They all adored each other, they were practically the female version of the Marauders once they convinced Lily to help them with something. And then Marlene and Alice were always there to back them up. They were quite the sight," Remus chuckled at the memory, and he seemed to become younger in the few seconds a genuine smile fell upon his lips. "but during the war they became distant. Separated from each other, until all that was left of the group that hung around each other were Elizabeth and Alice. I would go over and visit them sometimes. Elizabeth practically lived with them. And then, one night, Bellatrix and a group of Death Eaters attacked where...where Elizabeth was staying, and tortured almost everyone into insanity. All except Elizabeth. When the found her she was standing in the middle of it all, blood staining her robes and a scared look in her eye. She was arrested at once and sent to Azkaban," Remus finished with a sigh, finishing off his chocolate.
"But, Professor, who was the family?" Hamish asked curiously, though he had a feeling he already knew. Remus opened his mouth to answer when the train lurched to a stop.
"I suppose that will have to wait for another day, Hamish. Now, all of you, come along. And be glad I know a spell that puts on your robes without having to remove any clothing." Remus strode out of the compartment and towards the exit, pushing passed kids on his way. Rose and Harry looked down at themselves and realized they were, in fact, wearing their robes, which was a great relief to them. All six teens followed after Remus quickly, fighting against the surge of students to get off of the train.
They made it out after much difficulty, and found that Remus had been waiting for them, a smile on his face as they all gathered around him. "Now, let's find a carriage, shall we?" They all nodded and trailed behind him as he walked towards the carts that were pulled by magic, or that's what Rose guessed it was pulled by. As they were going to get into the nearest carriage they found Malfoy with none other than Neville Longbottom in his grip as Crabbe and Goyle poked and prodded him with their wands, laughing at every whimper Neville let out. Remus glared in their direction and promptly headed towards them, leaving Rose and the others to watch him as he went. "What are you doing, Mr. Malfoy?" Remus asked cooly, coming up behind him.
"Teaching him a lesson. How about I do the same to-" Malfoy shut his mouth quickly when he saw Remus, his eyes widening in fear as he saw that he almost threatened a teacher. "O-Oh, Professor I didn't- so sorry-" Malfoy stuttered, dropping Neville to the ground into what just happened to be a mud puddle.
"Oh it's quite alright. Though I do believe an apology and a detention would serve you well, Mr. Malfoy," Remus smiled, helping Neville up and quickly cleaning off the boys robes.
"A detention?! No way is messing with Longbottom here worth a detention-!" Malfoy began but decided against it after seeing the firm look on Remus's face. "Fine. Sorry, Longbottom. But I hope you know, my father will here about this!" Malfoy yelled, looking as though he wanted to curl up and die.
"Oh, Lucious? How's he been? Has he finally gotten rid of that squeaky puberty voice he had practically forever during school?" Remus smirked at Malfoy's baffled expression before turning and marching Neville back towards everyone. "Go on, in you go," Remus told Neville, helping him inside the cart. Everyone stared at Remus in awe and admiration, though Rose felt a little bad for Malfoy. Glancing in front of her as the carriage began moving she could see Malfoy look back at her, before facing the front again.
