I wasn't nervous because I was in a house full of vampires (there are worse things). I think it was because I'm pretty sure that everyone thinks I'm crazy for accepting them. Then my mind raced back to Twilight. Yeah, they'll have worse things to deal with if they haven't already. That reassured me a little bit, but I wasn't sure how long I'd last.
"How are you feeling, Edythe?" Dr. Cullen asked, making sure to keep his distance. He looked at Alice and Edward wearily as they sat on either side of me.
"Much better, thank you, Dr. Cullen." I smiled smally, now I was confused; how is this supposed to work?
Alice stiffened before looking over to Rosalie. Her smile widened and she seemed to vibrate with excitement. "Ooo! Yes, Rose! That's a great idea!"
"I know," Rosalie said coyly while she flicked her hair over her shoulder. She looked over to Mr. and Mrs. Cullen. "So, I was thinking that-since she doesn't have anywhere to go-she could stay here. I mean, she and Edward could be siblings!" I found myself liking the idea, but didn't say anything; it wasn't my place and it wasn't my decision to make. "It'll help us stay longer." Rosalie added hopefully.
"Wait!" Emmett said loudly. "Why can't she be my little sister?"
"She and Edward look more alike, duh." Alice said, rolling her eyes.
"She's sitting right here," Jasper said. "But I like it." Carlisle and Esme looked at him strangely. Jasper just shrugged.
"This isn't the time or place to discuss this, Rose." Esme said lightly but she smiled anyway like she liked the idea, too.
The next few hours consisted of Carlisle checking me over, Alice chirping random things at random times, noises from Emmett and Jasper's video games came from downstairs and Esme, Edward and Rosalie talking quietly outside the bedroom door. After a while, Dr. Cullen told me I needed to sleep more. When I had lay down, Edward came in and leaned against the door frame but he didn't say anything.
When I woke up again, it was lighter out but the sun was tucked behind a thick sheet of clouds. I was sweating and I had guessed that my fever broke. I heard Alice squeal from downstairs and suddenly, she was in the room, bouncing up and down with excitement. Edward was still in the doorway; he didn't even seem to have moved. He was smiling widely, too.
"Eeeep!" Alice squealed, fluidly moving to sit on the floor next the bed, next to my head. "Edythe Cullen! That has such a great sound to it! Oh, Edythe! We have to go shopping! Carlisle is making the papers right now!"
"Only if she agrees, Alice!" Esme reminded.
"Okay, okay!" Alice grinned. "So, we all think it'd be best if you stayed with us until we find out a way to get you home. What do you think?" The smile she wore told me she knew what I thought about it.
"Are you sure it's okay?" I said hesitantly. I was excited, I might not like the plot of the books, but the characters themselves were great! Edward sent me a slightly confused look but I just thought I'll explain later and he nodded.
"Of course it is!" Alice thrilled. "I've always wanted a little sister!"
I bit my lip, thinking it over; I was hardly nervous about them being vampires (better than wolves; I always hated them). I saw Esme in the doorway, looking hopeful. That set my decision. "If you're sure it's fine." I said.
Alice squealed again, tackling me in a hug. "Ahhh! Edythe, you're going to love it here!" I hugged back, ignoring her coldness.
"I bet I am," I agreed, slightly breathless.
