"Oh!" Esme jumped up. "Edythe you have to eat! I'm so sorry I forgot."

"You're fine," I said. I walked with Esme to the kitchen, helping her with the enchilada recipe that would save her from cooking for the next three days; the recipe only feeds three people, anyway. I did most of the work but Esme watched, memorizing the things I did for next time. It smelled great to me but I could tell by the way Esme was holding her breath and lull in the conversation in the living room that it bothered everyone else.

"Edythe," Carlisle said, walking into the kitchen; the food bothered him the least. "I was wondering if I could get a small blood sample from you after dinner. Edward brought up a good point and I was wondering if I could test it out."

"Sure," I nodded.

"Thank you," he nodded. He leaned in the doorway and watched as Esme and I cleaned up the kitchen.

I didn't hear Alice as she slipped by Carlisle but she cleared her throat and handed me a pony-tail. "Thanks," I said, messily pulling up my hair. I stopped mid-way when her eyes followed my hands' every move. I was about to offer it back to her to do (if it bothered her that much) but she shook her head and skipped out of the room. I finished putting my hair up and moved to sit at the bar, waiting for the enchiladas to be done.

"Can you tell me about your family?" Esme said, leaning against the counter. "What are they like?"

"It's just me and my dad," I said. "He's the sheriff of Sioux Falls. He always is at work; but he takes every holiday off. My mom's not around anymore." My explanation was bad and vague; I realized for the first time that explaining my family to a stranger sounded bad.

"When's your birthday?" Carlisle asked. "You said it was in December?"

"December 23rd," I nodded.

"What's your favorite color?" Esme asked, smiling lightly.

I had to think for a minute before I could answer. No one's ever asked me that question before. "Uh, pink; I guess."

The timer for the oven went off and Esme reached in without a glove to pull it out. Of course, her hand was perfectly fine. She cut me a piece and handed it over counter to me with a fork and a glass of water. "There you go," Esme smiled.

"Thank you," I cut into the sizzling cheese and the stuffed tortilla , waiting for it to cool down before taking a bite.

"That looks gross," Emmett commented as he and everyone else came into the kitchen.

"Emmett!" Rosalie slapped his arm.

"It does, though!"

"That's okay," I smirked. "But just remember that not everyone gets to wrestle their food."

Emmett laughed hard at that. "True, Edy, I guess when you can't hunt-you cook!"

Jasper grinned. "You seem to fit in perfectly."

"Well if I can't fit in with humans... why not vampires, right?" I shrugged. Everyone's smiles grew.

"Especially vampires who loathe Twilight." Edward commented.

"You would love Harry Potter." Alice said poking Edward's side. "I could see you and Cedric Diggory getting along great!"

"Yeah, I bet," Edward rolled his eyes.
