Edward had gone to his meadow to cool off from his run to Alaska and I hadn't seen him all day. Now the sky was darkening a the sun set behind the fog-like clouds and he was still gone. Esme said that upon coming home, he went straight to the hospital to apologize to Carlisle and then went to his meadow.
"He'll be home soon," She said but sounded like she was trying to convince herself, as well.
Alice was fussing with her sketch pad, we had another doodle due tomorrow and she was trying to draw the perfect one. I had simply divided the paper into precise angled lines and wrote a paragraph about how you could see different shapes in the divides and said that I saw a sun rise over a plane. Alice was more determined than I and was trying to incorporate a flower into a collection of circles.
"This is ridiculous!" She exclaimed around six that evening. "Who thinks of this?"
"Crazy art teachers who have three cats and dresses like a hippie?" I offered, describing our art teacher flawlessly and used details from pictures and paintings she had hanging around her room.
Alice 'harrumph'ed and and went back to drawing. "She does dress like a hippie," Alice grumbled, working furiously on her doodle. She sat on Jasper's lap and he watched from over her shoulder.
Rose was in her garage, working on the car she salvaged from a scrapyard last night. Emmett was trying to get me to challenge him to a racing game. His constant nagging was annoying and causing me to get distracted from my book. Esme had headed out and wasn't here to save me. Emmett knew that and was pestering me relentlessly.
"Please, Edy?" Emmett whined. "Just one game! It'll take, like, two minutes! Are you afraid I'll beat you? I'll go easy! Please! Play with me, Edy!" He poked my side with every syllable and made me fidget with every poke.
"No, Emmett!" I said, swatting his hand. "Go away! Play against the computer!"
"Please, SISSY" Emmett poked me more ferociously and began to tickle me. "PLAY WITH ME!" He shouted.
"NO!" I shouted back, fighting the smile growing on my face; he was like the older-little brother I wished I had.
"PLEASE?"
"NO!"
"PLEASE?"
"NO!"
"PLEASE?" Emmett whined, picking me up and swinging me around. I clung to his neck like a lifeline and tried to close my eyes as we whipped me around at his preferred speed.
"Oh, my gosh!" I groaned after he put me down. "Fine! One round! I really don't care if you win!"
"YES!" Emmett cheered, running to the game room. I jogged after him, wondering how long it will take to untangle my mass of thick red hair. "You're on!"
"Fine," I rolled my eyes and took a seat next to him on the ground, crossing my legs and leaning forward as the game began. My controller was round, like a steering wheel and made it awkward for me to hold so I popped out the Wii controller and held it sideways.
Emmett, throughout our 'brother-sister bonding time' never let up on the teasing and taunting as I beat him twice in a row at MarioKart. I've never played it before and true to his word, Emmett went easy on me. Then about three rounds later, Jasper joined and it became a competition between he and Emmett.
They got so into the game that I had to move behind them and duck to avoid their elbows that seemed to fly into my face every ten seconds, or so. I gave up two rounds after Jasper joined and watched their accuracy; noting that they stayed perfectly inside the road without swerving until necessary.
Jasper (who chose Mario on a motorcycle) was leaning with every turn, like he was on a motorcycle; it was hilarious to watch him move and lean without thinking. Emmett (whose personal favorite Bowser in a boxy-Jeep like thing) bounced up and down like he was in his Jeep at high speed, racing down a rocky highway.
