Esme picked me up a sub from a sandwich place near the hospital for dinner. At seven fifteen, she and Carlisle got home and found Emmett, Jasper and I in the game room. I was watching them with an amused look, trying to figure out why it was so much fun as they continued bouncing and leaning.
Alice was upstairs, cooling off with her sewing machine and Rose was still in the garage, she came in once to find Emmett and she was wearing stained overalls with a t-shirt with her blonde hair messily up in a ponytail. Edward was still yet to have been seen.
"You haven't seen him?" Carlisle asked as I sat at the bar to eat my sub. I shook my head no as I swallowed.
"He'll be back," Esme said confidently. "He wouldn't leave again without telling us."
"Should I go look for him?" Carlisle wondered. I could see why everyone saw him as a father; he clearly was one.
"Let him come back on his own," Esme advised. She looked between Carlisle and I before biting her lip to keep from smiling.
"So, Edythe, 65 out of 60?" Carlisle said casually.
"That's what Alice says," I shrugged.
"She's usually right," Esme reminded.
I nodded. "You won't ever catch me betting against her."
"GOOD!" Alice called from upstairs.
"It's very impressive," Carlisle commented. "Was it an easy test? I don't expect so since it was Honors Geometry."
"EVERYONE ELSE PRACTICALLY FAILED!" Alice added. She skipped downstairs grinning. "I can't wait to see Mr. Varner's face tomorrow when he grades your test!"
I swallowed my last bite of sandwich. "You mean he hasn't even graded it yet?"
"Nope!"
Carlisle chuckled and kissed the top of my head before he went upstairs to his study. As he went, he said "I'm very proud of you, Edy, well done."
I was practically glowing with pride.

Edward hadn't turned up all night. Despite Rosalie's persistence, I stayed up to ten thirty.
"It won't matter anyway, Rose," Alice chimed. "It'll be sunny the rest of the week." Then she scowled, "That means I won't get to see him grade your paper."
Not even I would go to school when it was sunny so sleep (at the moment) was irrelevant. I hoped Edward wasn't mad at me but I was even more fearful that he was mad at Carlisle because of me. When Carlisle told me to head upstairs and said that he'd send Edward up if he came back tonight, I didn't argue. I just nodded and said good night.
Alice and Rose had come upstairs to talk to me for a little, it was mostly about school and what little social life I had. I'd told them about my friends (Lily, James, and Beau) about how my dad never took school seriously (when they asked if my dad was ever not proud of my grades) so I never got much praise from him. I knew everyone else was listening, too, but I didn't mind; they'd know soon enough.
Esme had come up and asked about my future plans. She'd stayed by the door, leaning in and looked like she was trying to restrain herself from doing something.
"I've always wanted to become an anthropologist," I admitted. "History's my favorite subject."
After that, around eleven, the girls went out of my room. I'd fallen asleep quickly but I was still nervous about my being here and what it would do to such a perfect family.
