Edward was absent that day and I found that he did run to Alaska but he'd be back by the time we were all home from school. We had all climbed into Jasper's Buick Enclave; he seemed happy to be able to speed down the road. He was possibly worse off than Edward when he skidded around corners and into a too-tight parking spot.
I was sure I'd be sick.
"Sorry, Edy," Jasper grinned, hopping out of the car with Alice in tow, grinning equally as crazed.
"Mhmm," I grumbled, "Sure you are."
"You look a little green, Edy," Emmett commented, "Do you want me to drive you home?" He teased of course; I knew he was the worst driver out of everyone.
"I'm fine, thanks," I said sarcastically. "I think I'd rather throw up in the girls' bathroom."
"Yeah, let's not do that; Edward would destroy us," Rose said, helping me out of the car as I groaned; my stomach was still not settled. I didn't think much about her comment and focused on trying to calm my churning stomach. "Maybe I should drive on the way back."
Jasper gave her a sour look before frowning. "Fine; I'll drive slower this afternoon."
"Much appreciated," I muttered. "I'm going to head to my classroom; I have a test today and I won't be able to study with you all nagging me." I grabbed my bag and teased them but before I could walk off, Alice stopped me.
"You don't need to study, Edy, you'll get an A, anyway." She pouted, wanting me to stay longer; we still had thirty minutes before school began.
"Just because I'll get an A doesn't need I don't need to study!" I countered.
"We'll quiz you," Alice said. I rolled my eyes and waited for the questions to be asked. The questions they asked were slightly harder than I knew the ones would be on the test. My answers (according to them) were completely right until Alice asked "What was William Taft's last words?"
"Unknown...?" I said; no one knew William Taft's last words. He was the 27th president; that was as much as I knew about him; I preferred last words to accomplishments.
"Correct!" Alice grinned. "That's the bonus question-don't leave it blank!"
"Does he ever change the bonus questions?" Rose sighed.
"No," Alice grinned cheekily and dismissed me.

Alice spent lunch staring at me intently, looking slightly constipated. I could tell that she was trying to see my grade; she wanted to know more than me. Emmett (now free of guilt) teased the both of us mercilessly. Rose ignored him and she and Jasper (who, once again, pulled my chair close to him) spoke lowly about cars. I read my book and tried to ignore both Alice and Emmett.
Edward texted Alice twice; once to ask he to pick up his homework (during lunch) and once to tell her he was home (right when school got out). Jaspe made a distinct effort not to skid around corners but his foot never left the petal. I was beginning to wonder if I has motion sickness because I (once more) felt queasy at the end of the ride.
"Ahh!" Alice squealed just as we were walking in. "Edythe! You did get an A! Oooh; 65 out of 60! Nice!"
"Thanks," I smiled. Then my smiled faltered. "Wait, you didn't think I could get an A!"
Alice looked at me sheepishly, "I couldn't tell!"
"Edythe, you got an A+ on your Honors Geometry test?" Esme asked, coming down stairs. Alice and I both nodded. "Good job, Edy!" Esme gave me a hug and said "I'm so proud of you!"
Pride swelled in my chest; no one's ever told me they were proud of me before. I've only ever gotten good grades to please myself, to make me feel better. My dad never cared about school.
"Thanks Esme," I smiled brightly and hugged back.
