“Okay first boyfriend?” Harry asked the question I was wanting too. I could feel myself wanting to know about her past boyfriends but then I saw the color drain from her face. She just sat there for a moment watching past the boys; not fully in this room. Her mind was somewhere relieving whatever she was thinking.
Out of nowhere she just stands up and walks to the back room; her room. Harry said something about how he was sorry for asking but she just shook her head and shut the door. Everyone looked at Harry, not mad or disappointed that he asked the question, more sympathy because he would think it was his fault. It was no one’s fault since we really didn’t know much about her and her past except for what we have learned in the past few days.
I stood up to go check on her but was stopped by Liam. His hand firmly placed on my shoulder in a fatherly way.
“She just needs her space. Give her some time.” He said softly, I shook my shoulder out from his grip, not harshly but to let him know this was important.
“Liam, this is Natalie, I’m going to see if she’s okay whether she needs it or not.” He sort of thought for a moment before he nodded his head and told me to go see if she was okay but not to mention anything about her first boyfriend. I quickly said okay and made my way into the back of the bus. I stopped short when I heard music playing.
“She is the Prom Queen and I’m in the marching band.
She is a cheerleader and I’m sitting in the stands.
She gets the top bunk and I’m sleeping on the floor
And She’s Miss America and I’m just girl next door.”
I, at first, thought it was a song off the radio or laptop but then heard it stop and an acoustic guitar part came through the door. Those made me stop and put my ear to the door. The song was very unfamiliar, I wonder if she wrote it herself. I could hear some noise like she was singing quietly to herself but was getting choked on her words; almost like she was crying while singing.
Hesitantly, I knocked on the door.
“Yeah?” She had definitely been crying because the sound in her voice gave it all away. I felt a way of sorrow go through my body just by thinking of her face with tears falling down her face.
“Nat, can I come in?” I asked softly. Her reply came a short second later.
“Sure.” I couldn’t tell in her voice if she really wanted someone to talk to or if she wanted to just get this over with. Either way, I opened the door and came into the small room.
Natalie was sitting on the bed, cross-legged, with a sheet of paper in front of her and my acoustic guitar on her lap. I didn’t mind that she had it either, because I had left it in this room during the beginning of the tour.
She didn’t bother to try and hide either of them or the fact that her tears left stains on her cheeks.
“Are you okay?” I asked as I sat on the bed beside her. She gave me a humorless laugh before shaking her head. Although she had a smile on her face her eyes started filling with tears.
“No.” It was one word but it made her break. The tears spilled over the brim of her eyes and she started crying. Out of instinct, I immediately pulled her into a hug so she knew I was here for her. I only pulled away to move the guitar out of the way so I could hold her closer and tighter. Call me being a little bit girly but butterflies made their presence known at that moment, a feeling went through my stomach that made me feel for her; not like I pitied her but more that I want to be there all the time to comfort her.
I soothed her and eventually she calmed down until it was just her hiccupping. I didn’t say anything to her just ran my fingers either along her arm or in her hair.
“Sorry about that.” She murmured softly as she her breathing became even and she was calmed down completely. I felt a sense of relief whenever her tears stopped but a nagging feeling in my stomach still had a tab open in my mind wondering why she acted the way she did. She gave me a small sigh before raising her head out of my chest and wiping away what tears were left on her brink pink cheeks.
“Never be sorry for crying love, if you ever need to talk know that my ears are always open.” The curiosity won out but I told my mind right after I said it that she wouldn’t even consider telling me. I tucked a strand of her long brunette hair behind her ear earning a small blush to arise on her cheeks. I smiled at her and to my surprise she actually started talking.
