"Did you hear what she did?"

"Apparently she almost killed Draco Malfoy!"

"I heard she flooded the great hall and the giant squid almost dried up without the lake there!"

"I heard she's mental."

"Is that her there?"

"Don't look right at her!"

"She might hurt you."

Amelia held her head high as the sea of students parted for her. No one got in her way. Lavender and Parvati walked a few feet behind her. Not even the Slytherins dared to talk to her. Usually she would have gotten so frustrated with this behaviour, but not today. Amelia promised herself she wouldn't get angry, so she repeated the words Jeremy had taught her aperire animo, to keep herself calm. All day she repeated those words.

At breakfast, Lavender and Parvati gossiped about how Hannah Abbot totally had a thing with Terry Boot. And apparently Pansy Parkinson like liked Oliver Rivers.

"What?" Amelia was astounded.

"Oh that's right, I forgot you and Oliver totally had it going on!" Lavender squealed.

"Me and Oliver don't have anything going on." Amelia denied.

"Of course not sweetie." Parvati grinned and patted her on the arm.

"We don't!" These girls were so thick sometimes. "I couldn't care less who likes Oliver. But Pansy Parkinson is vile." She did her best to sound nonchalant.

"She's ugly too." Lavender sided with Amelia.

"And she has this stupid face whenever she laughs, her looks get all scrunched up." Parvati joined in and they spent the rest of breakfast smack talking Pansy Parkinson.

Amelia's day consisted mostly of people pissing her off, then her trying to calm herself down. She didn't want to be angry all the time. She was generally a very happy person. But it got quite difficult to stay positive when people always looked at you like a dangerous animal in a zoo.

Potions was that afternoon and Amelia had to apologize to Snape after class. She spent the entire period rehearsing her speech so she could be prepared. When the class ended she slowly packed her bag and made her way to the front of the room where Snape was standing.

"May I have a word sir?" Amelia kept her voice monotone. Snape merely nodded and she continued. "I would like to say sorry for the way I spoke to you the other day and for being so disrespectful." Snape started talking but Amelia chose not to listen and just stare blankly at him. When he was done she skipped out of the room feeling much better.

She was walking up the stairs when a group of second year Ravenclaw girls jumped out of her way, looking terrified. Amelia grinned, surely there wasn't anything wrong about having a little fun?

"You know what? I don't like Ravenclaw girls, too stuck up." She teased them, but the girls took it very seriously.

"S-sorry!" They stuttered. Amelia nodded and turned away, walking up the stairs. After a few steps she whipped back around and made a noise like a pterodactyl.

The Ravenclaw girls screamed and clutched each other's robes for safety. Amelia burst out laughing and had to grab the stair rail for support. The girls ran away as fast as they could and Amelia wiping her eyes, continued on her way to the common room.

She arrived to see the room full of people as it usually was. When she walked in, it went silent. Amelia froze, unsure of what to do. These were her friends but they looked at her like she was an animal.

"Amy!" George bounded over to her. "Is it true you almost killed Draco Malfoy?" He beamed. "I couldn't be prouder!"

Amelia laughed, her voice filled the silence in the room and everyone went back to their own tasks. "George Weasley, my saving grace." She gave him a peck on the cheek. "Where's your brother at?"

"Ron? Right over there." He pointed to a dingy corner where Ron was indeed sitting with Hermione and Harry, clearly plotting something.

"No!" Amelia laughed, "your other brother!"

"What'd you want with Percy?" George sounded disgusted and Amelia laughed even more.

"No! You idiot! Fred!" She smacked him playfully.

"He's out." George vaguely stated.

"Out?"

"Yeup!" He popped the 'p' and looked around for a distraction.

"Just out?" George nodded but that didn't satisfy her. "Come on George. Tell me!"

"He's out with Alicia Spinnet."

"Oh."

Amelia felt rather angry at Alicia Spinnet. Alicia didn't deserve Fred, he was way too good for her. Alicia was stupid and Fred was so smart and funny. Fred was the best person she knew and Alicia was, well she wasn't even close to being the best.

Why was she gettin so jealous? First at breakfast about Oliver and Pansy, now this? Amelia was not a girl who got jealous over a boy.

"Well good for Fred." She said quickly then got up to leave.

"Amy!" George called after her but she ignored him. She ran up the stairs to her dormitory and ripped the door open to find Lavender and Parvati sitting on her bed chatting.

"Amelia!" She stopped in her tracks.

All she wanted to do was lay down and cry. Weep for everything she had put up with today. For the people who stared and whispered, for enduring the condescending lecture from Severus Snape, and for hearing about Fred, off with some silly girl.

She wanted to sob for the exhaustion of having to focus every minute, on not exploding. To cry for her father, and everything he had out her through, for her mother and for her brother too.

She wanted to curl up in a ball and disappear because she couldn't tell anyone about the nightmares, about her weakness.

But she didn't do any of that.

Instead, Amelia smiled and giggled late into the night with her friends. And no one could tell what was going through her mind.

The dreams that night were terrifying. Snakes travelled through the castle walls and ripped her from her bed. They took her to a tree that stood in a huge stone courtyard, where they bit every inch of her skin. Her veins flooded with their poison and she was burnt from the inside out. Amelia screamed and knew she would rather die than spend another second in this agony. When she finally did die, all that remained were her bones, that were fed to lizards.

When Amelia woke, she saw the other girls staring at her.

"What?" She demanded.

"You were screaming, Amelia." Hermione sounded scared of her.

"It was just a nightmare. Don't worry about it." They continued staring at her. "I said don't worry about it!" Her voice was harsh and commanding.

They girls scurried back to their beds and Amelia Merlin stayed up all night, drawing the lizards that had eaten her bones.
