"What are you doing?"

Jeremy turned around and smiled at her. "Hey! Didn't see you there."

"What are you doing?" Amelia repeated.

He shrugged nonchalantly. "Nothing much, what are you up to?"

Amelia would not be so easily thrown off. "You said I should only say those words when I need help controlling my magic, making sure it doesn't explode it anything. What were you doing?"

Jeremy laughed and put a hand on her shoulder, looking her very intensely in the eye. "It was nothing Amelia, I promise."

Her instincts told her to keep pushing, but Amelia loved her brother more than anyone, and she didn't want to make him mad. "Fair enough."

Jeremy pointed up at the tree. "Is this your doing?"

"Yeah." Amelia tried to hide how proud she was of the gorgeous oak.

"There's a branch missing."

Her jaw clenched, remembering the box Akkedis had sent her. "Yeah well branches fall off."

"Strange" Jeremy mused and Amelia tugged at the necklace around her throat.

"Not really." She raised her eyebrows at him.

"Look, I'm leaving tonight to go back to work."

Amelia shook her head. "No, no you can't leave. You can't leave me here with her!" Panic rose in her voice.

"I'm sorry, I wouldn't leave unless I had too. You know that."

"I know. But it still sucks." She whined and Jeremy chuckled.

"You're gonna be fine." He said. "I doubt our mother is going to want to make you mad."

"Why?"

"Because you're absolutely terrifying." He tousled her hair and they walked back into the house together. Amelia took the back door to the kitchen so she could hang out with Glapp a bit more.

"A letter came for the little mistress!" She scurried over to Amelia and handed her the envelope.

"Thanks." She opened the letter and saw it was from Fred.

Amy,
Great news, dad's just won some sort of prize thing and now we're all heading off to Egypt for the summer. I wish I could come say goodbye but mums in a frenzy and she won't let anyone leave the house. If you've got a minute you could come over and say goodbye? I'd love to see you before I'm off!
Love, Fred

And George too.

"I've gotta run, Glapp! I'll be back for dinner!" Amelia rushed out of the Merlin house and ran through the fields. The yellow grass blurred around her legs and in a moment she was at the Burrow.

Out of breath, Amelia let herself in. She was close enough with the Weasleys, she was practically family so it wasn't strange for her.

"Amelia dear!" Molly had a giant laundry basket in her hands. "You look lovely! How wonderful to see you!"

"Thanks Mrs Weasley! Do you know where Fred's at?" She beamed.

"In his room I expect!" Amelia thanked her and ran up the stairs.

"Amy!" Fred pulled her into a hug the second she opened the door to his room. "Great to see you!"

George rushed over to her. "Simply spiffing! Absolutely marvellous!" He said in a lofty voice, mocking his brother.
